Lucaswh 1st Gear May 11, 2011 Share May 11, 2011 I am narrow minded & probably sour grape because i did not get a Scirocco from my parent. I am proud to tell the whole world that i earn my own $$ to buy my own car rather than relying on handout. good for you then bro. Pride does come in different forms for different people. ↡ Advertisement
Emperor Clutched May 11, 2011 Share May 11, 2011 thanks for the harsh comments. dream kind of shattered. but im interested in hearing those people who parents bought them their 1st car. mind sharing ur story? when I first saw your post... I thought you were a spoilt brat.... but reading on.... I think there's some potential to you yet..... My advice to you Pigkachu, earn your money and buy your vehicle with money that you bust your balls with... you will love that vehicle with all your heart. FYI, my first vehicle is an L300 Mitsubishi van that I used to drive off road and learn how to drift with it before I could afford my first car... an AE86. You got potential. Keep up the way you think.

Emperor Clutched May 11, 2011 Share May 11, 2011 If the parents of the TS are really very rich, I think it is still acceptable that he would love having his parents buy the car for him. A scirocco is nothing to the children of a president of a global company for example. I still agree with the mantra that "buy your own car with your own money" though. However, if the parents are just say generally above average middle income employees, asking for a scirocco is too much. All things must be taken in perspective. What may be over-extravagant to one may mean nothing to another. The average couple may service a $200,00~$300,000 loan for many years for a typical HDB flat but a top footballer may earn that amt in a matter of weeks. But yes, I do get the impression that TS is spoilt. There is nothing wrong with parents rewarding their kids with gifts at times but remember that they are not obliged to provide you such stuff. Even if you really need a car for convenience, there is really no need for a Scirocco, if that's what you are after. YOU WANT A SCIROCCO? EARN YOUR OWN SCIROCCO. Have the decency to just ask for a entry level car and be contented if your parents accede to your request. For low income earners, it is possible that throughout their lives, they have to take public transport. Life is never fair and you have the karma/luck to be in a better position. Have the strength of character to do what is right and you will be a more respected person in your later years in life. Bro, give TS some credit. Do read his other posts... he may have some potential here....may not be as spoilt as we originally think...
Iambored Clutched May 11, 2011 Share May 11, 2011 Dude i drive precisely because i wanna avoid taking taxis, buses, trains. There really is nothing wrong with parents getting their kid a car. It may be some old car but a car is still a car if it means that you don't have to put up with whatever i mentioned above. Are you one of those people who get envious just cos some young kid got a car before you ever did? Well by reacting the way you just did, you're the one who looks like a kid not me. My car is 1 of many choice of transport. In fact, my car is something for me to enjoy rather than stuck in some traffic jam. I cycle more than i drive on the island. Why should i be envious when i could buy 1 myself?

Iambored Clutched May 11, 2011 Share May 11, 2011 (edited) Haha well if you don't get it, i'm drawing a reference to the past where should you decide to take a loan on your car, your original log card which is in color will be handed over to the finance company while you'll get the photocopy and you'll only get the original copy of the log card when you pay for the car in full or settle your loan. By the way in case you don't know what it used to look like, it's a long slip of beige paper. I'm sure you know what i'm getting at now don't you? Iambored Clutched May 11, 2011 Share May 11, 2011 i know that there isn't a physical log card these days hence the reference to the past. It's an inside joke amongst my friends and i. Well if you take a loan on your car, then you'd have to worry about installments every month, i don't. In addition the interest on the loan can kill, that's why my car is paid in full. If i can't afford, i will be worry. If i borrow a lot, it will kill me. When i borrow from UOB, UOB approved my loan w/o proof of income. So?

Lucaswh 1st Gear May 11, 2011 Share May 11, 2011 why you guys still arguing over paying full or taking loan or whatever? Aiyah those who really don't need loan to buy cars won't make too much noise bout it.

How do you conclude that my car belongs to the bank? Bank loan <> lack of affordability. ↡ Advertisement
