Iambored Clutched May 11, 2011 Share May 11, 2011 All of our car are on 10 yr lease. So? How do you conclude that my car belongs to the bank? Bank loan <> lack of affordability. To answer your first question punctuated with a "so?", if your car is fully paid up, you won't have to worry about paying installments for the entire 10 years. Imagine what happens if you face retrenchment....If you pay your car in full you won't have to worry about the installments or even contemplate selling your car off. Secondly should you decide upgrade or downgrade within those 10 years you'd be able to sell your car off keeping losses to a minimum. Thirdly even though we can only drive our cars for 10 years before having to renew the COE, the fact is we can still renew it. Now to answer your second question....technically the bank can repossess your car should you default on your installment and auction it off.

U WIN!

U WIN! Ahh that depends on what kinda investment. Anyway i've already placed my money in the stock market so now i'm 8k richer due the dividends. Lastly i will never ever take a loan because i don't see the point in letting banks make money and paying extra for the car.

If i could afford it, why should i be worry about paying monthly installments? If i face retrenchment, i can still service the loan. Why should change car? I am driving the Ultimate Driving Machine till my COE expires. Of course u can renew it. Does it make financial sense to renew it since you really know how to invest so well? Before bank can auction it, i can scrap it since it does not bother to get a copy of my insurance cert.

We have to make assumptions in order to debate. If you can afford it, why would you even bother taking a loan? If you face retrenchment, you can service the loan assuming that you have enough funds in your bank account to tide you through. However if you had that kind of money then why would you still be paying installments? Wouldn't you have paid off the loan? Well that's provided you really like your car after 5 years or so. Alright have fun. Well you can renew it if your car is a collectible or rare or if you predict a future increase in the COE price and wish to make a profit just like those people who are selling their Civics and Corollas. Alright dude whatever reassures you that the bank is powerless.

If i have that kind of $$, why can't i take loan? $$ can be used for investment in other instruments other than share market. Fun is always an subjective items. Driving a fun car is more than pure pwr. A lot of cars on the road has not been maximised to its fullest potential. I am driving a car that is substantially higher value than O/S loan. Bue84 Neutral Newbie May 12, 2011 Share May 12, 2011 Hi let me give you some advise, when i was studying at west, i lived in the east and had to travel an hour everyday to sch... I personally dun think its cool to use yr parents' $$$ to buy the car... I'll be embarrassed to let my frens know that car paid by parents.. why depend on them? why dun u wait till u grad, then im dead sure u can afford a decent one? if u have some savings now, perhaps u can afford a malaysian/china made hatchback (still better than nothing) now... i grad at 22, (knowing i wanted a car too when i grad, i worked part time during my Uni days) had my first vehicle at 23... now 27, i can say i have changed vehicles at least 4-5 times! and I am proud to say, all these cars had nothing to do wif my parents... all from my own pockets... and mind you, i dun take loan... this is wad ppl envy me now :) lady here

A lot of cars on the road has not been maximised to its fullest potential. $$ can be invested in other instruments other than share market, i agree. but using the money to loan for a car paying interest is considered 'Investment'? driving a 'fun' car is more then pure pwr? how fun is driving an 'Ultimate Driving Machine' (which u term ur car as) that's only 2L? (i prersume ur 'Ultimate Driving Machine' is an 5 year old 520. (correct me if i'm wrong) btw hor, can share wif me why are u so agaisnt kids using their parents money to buy cars? Fourth 2nd Gear May 12, 2011 Share May 12, 2011 We have to make assumptions in order to debate. If you can afford it, why would you even bother taking a loan? I think your assumption is flawed. I for example can pay in full for the car but I take car loan too. Cannot understand? Maybe next time you may. Does not mean your formula is the only formula in the world. I'm enjoying my ride, the other way my brother enjoying his. I think driving a powerful car is fun, he think driving a smooth, comfort with sufficient power car is something "fun" to him, too much power surge makes him puke (thats what he told me). din you heard ppl commenting SSS a fun car to drive? To each his own. To realize a need and a want would make a whole lot of different in a child's growth. I provide everything my son need, with some "want" from time to time. if your kid already obtained their driver license, and you are absolutely no problem in getting your kid their dream ride at full cash, nobody will against it, if thats the choice you want your kids to grow in such a way. I am sure that david is not against the parent but the mindset of the defensive kiddy.

Why do i respect Bue84? when did I say u said using $ for loan is an investment? it was merely a qn. i personally don't think reading up articles on certain car makes but owning one can ascertain that it's the Ultimate Drivng Machine. I've driven a 520 countless times. apart fr the badge itself, I feel that it's only a bigger saloon, that's all. but then again, that's my perception. like someone posted, everyone's fun factor differs. honestly, I hv no idea why u respect Bue84, since u asked. all I know is, if the money for the car comes legally regardless fr who, I think it's ok. if my parent were to fund my car becoz they can well afford it, great. i can use the money intended for my car loan for something else more useful. if not, I'll juz do it on my own. simple. If E60 520 with N46, of course it is juz badge only. If E60 M54 or E39 M54, it was not driven hard enough. ↡ Advertisement
