I get what you meant bro... I seriously gave the video another thought that what if it is not a musso behind the camry but a motorcyclist? The consequences will be unthinkable... Well, local roads are seriously well organised, well path and well litted. These are the factors that cause drivers to take safety for granted, such that there is a lack of situation awareness... It's no harm putting them into practise!!

That is why they are taxi drivers...most would care less to be considerate.

 

They only know that picking more passenger, mean more money for them.

 

Most can't get out of their 'cycle of life'...day in , day out.

 

The best thing one could do is to anticipate the dangers posed by them ,when one is appraoching or near to a taxi on the roads.

 

Different road suituations require different approaches when it comes to taxi but most obey a coomon rule.

 

'Distance from them' is key and to look out for sudden movement and stoppages from them.

 

You definitely would not want to have a encounter with them over an accident ...be it minor or major.

Another move is you on left most lane and a cab suddenly cut in front of you from another lane and jam brake. I ever kana before, I almost hit him. Jam brakes so hard till tyres lock up. Don't even have time to horn. The fugger driver still act like nothing has happened.......

No worries. Each and every one of us here have their thoughts, but I believed all are focused on one thing, road safety... This video certainly gave each one of us a good lesson. Hopefully more drivers will rise awareness and make the road trip a safe and pleasant one!!

if i were to brake hard in front of a traffic light in such scenario, i will look back from rear mirror to ensure the car behind not to come too close to me. If i see them having such difficulty, i usually inch forward to avoid collision, even if it cross the white line... happen a few time. If they still can't brake on time, i prepare for the impact

Taxi drivers though are largely to be blamed since they are in control of their vehicle movements but there are also contributing factors from passengers themselves, especailly those who wave for a taxi along roads or gave unclear or misleading instructions to the cabby while they are in the taxi.

 

Common traits seen are passenger(s) ( mostly women ..don't they always cause the most problems in the world for men..hehehe ) who can't be bothered to go the the right side of the road to catch a cab for. The passenger would stand (usually along a side kerb sometimes even a smaller road junction)and wave acroos the other side of the road for a cab, with traffic travelling in the opposite side, for the cab to U-turn to them on their side.

 

The distraction they posed to the cab driver are two fold.

.

Firstly, it cause the cabby to look away from his front view when he sees a potentiol customer.

 

Second, it tempts the cabby eithier to made a illegal U-turn to the passenger or stops suddenly so that the passenger can run across to them.

 

But the same rule applies to others, keep a safe distance and look out for taxi driving behaviour.

This one Cabbies are in the lossing war. If they dont do a E-brake and the potential passenger complained to the company that taxi dont want to pick them up. they also kena.

To make matters worse, he didn't keep a safer distance.

 

But keep in mind, even if he had kept a safe distance and managed to brake in time. Another vehicle behind him ( a supposed third car) could have hit him from behind.

 

That is unless, the second car had reacted early by blinking his brake light to the third car and thus slowing down the column of vehicles behind, averting a disaster.

i note way in front there was a slow down. (brake lights litted)

I was slowly braking to slow down. now i kept 3s rule. Feet still pressing on brakes, car slowly down

But the damn car behind me was tailgating.

 

few sec later, everyone in front brake suddenly. I was able to stop in time.

Car behind bang into me. He was the only one. the rest of the car behind obviously reacted correctly.

 

from the time i start to brake slowly till I stopped, it was 11 secs. (yes I have video)

i was slowing down with brake light on for 11 s, he still can't react

 

What else am i suppose to do? on hazard light?

musso are normally classified as vans based on their license plate. Why is the musso driving fast on the 1st lane? If musso is on the 2nd lane behind the second car, the accident may not happen.

 

2 sec is just a guide. If your reaction is slow or you have botak tyre or have brakes worn out, you may want to consider increasing the safety distance. You need to have defensive driving and do not expect things to always happen as what you think even if you have the right of way. You need to look infront ahead of the car.

 

If the musso had intention to stop after seeing the amber light, he may be able to brake in time.

When one slows down, it is not appropriate to press the brake without releasing it. Constantly-lit brake lights are not obvious during day time, especially for cars of dark colors (for example, dark magenta and dark red). I always press and release the brake several times, in order to alert any driver behind. This might not work well with ABS, but it can probably save one's own life. When stopping in front of a traffic light with no car behind, this is even more critical.

camry should just drive on instead of e-brake. During practical driving lesson, I was thought to slow down at junctions and anticipate the lights and I was thought to judge by the arrows, from the third last arrows and the seconds last arrows, if it is amber, the driver should stop, but if it is the arrow behind the stop line, if there is enough stopping distance and judging from the speed of the traffic behind, one should stop. If no arrows how? Judge by the speed you are driving and the condition behind you. If otherwise, from that spilt second, during amber, the driver should decide whether he should move on during amber or to stop. This camry didn't anticipate, such as slowly down for traffic junction or what, and the moment the lights turned amber, he just e-brake.

 

Well, some would agree and some would disagree, I always believe in defensive driving on the roads and that includes anticipating and according to driving conditions. And I'm not one would encourage people to beat the red light (obviously not right) but just saying that based on the condition in that video, the camry would have avoided such unnecessary accident. Life is precious. Spare a thought and drive safe, especially motorcyclist... Please Chill bros!!
