Too long queue everywhere.

Somehow, I seldom encounter such problems at supermarkets be it Giant, Carrefour, NTUC or whatever. Maybe it's because I go during the so-called off-peak hours? Btw, what are the peak periods for supermarkets in general??

if you drive to sembawang shopping centre, the queue is even longer than that at the ladies toilet.

 

The car queue is terrible.

Because in SG, people don't trust one another.

 

In US and I think Aus as well, some supermarket allow customers to self-checkout. Yes, the customer is the cashier. Just go to those self-checkout counters, scan the price tags then pay with credit card or ATM card and GO. Simple. Sometimes they put a security guard there to watch u... haha.

 

And some supermarkets in US have this portable scanner which u take at the entrance for u to scan as u shop. At the express cashier just plug it in to download the data into the cashier machine and pay straight away. No need to waste time scanning at the cashier. And cashier won't even put the items into plastic bags for u. They just throw plastic bags into your trolley n u pack yourself outside. The items u buy don't leave the trolley at all. Very fast and easy.

 

Don't think such systems will come to SG anytime soon, though.

i was at amk hub just the other day... thought i will get epoxy gluefrom ntuc fairprice for some repair stuff

 

looked at the queue... gave up... went to home fix which is just beside it

no queue and the same product is arnd 50cents cheaper hahaha

i think it's due to the increased car populations. 10 yrs ago before i started driving, everyday or every other day i went to supermarket but only bought a small portion of stuffs and hand carried to home. i remember most of people were like that. only those who had cars went to market during weekends and bought everything in one go. at that time weekdays supermarket was not very empty and weekends was not very crowded either.

 

now, almost everyone owns car and during weekends everyone go to supermarket and buy stuffs for whole week. of course it's very very crowded. and during weekdays, supermarket is very very empty and quiet.

Lately, the supermarkets queues are getting longer and longer.

Even weekdays, the there will be super long queues at NTUC or Giant.

I dont know its the lousy cashiers or really the 5 million population is causing the swell in the queues at all times.

 

And those people who forgot to weigh their vegetables, or buy-one-get-one free but only took one item, or ask the cashier how to cook the frozen chicken/how to fix the light bulb, etc...etc...

And those HELPFUL cashiers will bring the vegetables ALL THE WAY to the weighing counter to weigh for the customer or run to get the one free item from the shelf! And some cashier will walk over to ask their supervisor how to cook the frozen chicken, etc.

On one hand its Good service on the cashier part........but at the expense of those waiting in line patiently or impatiently!

 

I think supermarkets should really hire more cashiers!!!!

thus, it is not surprising to reckon that everywhere will be crowded.

my friend just told me one thing, the crowded places will be for FTs.

we, SGeans, will be hidding in some corners whereby less crowds.. for us to have some peace. =P

Ya...GWC cold storage got self-check out machine.

 

But i only see angmo using it.

 

I use to do our marketing at toa payoh central NTUC. Crowded plus usually cant get a parking lot in front of NTUC. Have to park quite far and later drive in to load up.

 

Now i frequent NTUC balestier plaza. Can get the same food/items there. Plus parking lots near NTUC entrance are pentyfull on saturday or sunday morning. The best thing is $30 NTUC purchase can redeem free parking!!!

 

So we park there and have BF first then go NTUC. hehehe

My view is that Sg has too many blur ppl, who choke up the service counters.

Having customer service is good, blur ppl have the right to exist.

I am just asking for more self service options for ppl who places a higher value on productivity.

Not necessarily self service counters like CS GWC, but idiot proof express counters ... less than 10 items, no weighing/ no asking questions type.
