Buying from amazon

Tried to register with Borderlinx but it seems that it only accepts citibank credit card...

Was directed to the Citibank homepage to register for a credit card and found that there were so many to choose from.

Which is the best-value-for-money card? Poor old man like me would love to choose one with the lowest subscription fee (best if can be waived) with the least liabilities.

Use Borderlinx if possible. I've used both VPost and Borderlinx and Borderlinx is much quicker and more secure. In fact, I doubt VPost actually bothers to deliver the goods. I remember being at home the entire day and never saw or heard the postman coming around, but the attempted delivery notice mysteriously appeared at my doorstep and I had to make a trip down to Singpost to collect the items the next day after calling and making an arrangement with them; they won't have it ready with them otherwise, wtf. Borderlinx uses DHL.

Not too sure about the functionality of your other items, but for the Kindle (I have two.. the DXG and the Kindle 3), you won't be able to buy many ebooks if your Amazon account is a SG one. You'll either have to do some dirty tricks (VPN, register some other US address) to make it look like you're a US resident or settle for diminished functionality - if your address is an SG one, you will only be able to use their 3G global network to access the Amazon store and Wikipedia and you won't see many Kindle ebooks in the SG version of the store...

Any citibank card will do. Just pick one with free subscription for 1st or 2nd yr.

Once you charge regularly to the card, you can always asked for waiver and usually get it.

Borderlinx is much better than Vpost. I tried both and Vpost is just ...not what you want to experience. Generally higher charges and stupid SingPost delivery is screwed up. You could wait whole day for the delivery, go to toilet for a few mins. During that time, the delivery guy appears, knock 2 times, and disappear and leave you a delivery note to follow up.

Borderlinx delivery is via DHL.

Also try not to use auto delivery, so you can consolidate other deliveries and activate delivery when you're delivery.

Bordelinx code can be found by googling. Applying code during delivery action can get you a further 15% to 30% off if you're lucky.

I have just used borderlinx service. order is in progress now.

Just take note tat if you are trying to buy from some USA sites, they will only accept USA credit cards, this is where u will need to use their concierge service (provided you got a citibank CC).

Borderlinx will place the order for you....

I have also discovered thru their site that their exchange rate now still is 1 = 1.51..... not 1.32

just take note of this

the actual exchange rate may differ at point of placing order

No choice as i am getting a pair of oakleys thru there...

despite the high exchange rate, it is much cheaper getting it in retailed shops in SG...

how much is the xp18000?

i saw at sim lim square, it costs approx 200 plus?

In Singapore, the undiscounted retail price was $299. Students in some tertiary campuses may get it at ~$259.

I believe the price could be even lower if we ask around further.

I got my oakleys finally, on x'mas eve..

ordered on 27 Nov 2010.

there was a slight delay in getting approval / transfer of status and I been bugging them every 2 days for an update as the pair of oakleys was delivered to their hub on 29 Nov 2010.

The item was finally updated and transferred to their hub on 20 DEC 2010...

i have released shipment on 20 DEC, the parcel managed to reach my house on 24 DEC.

what is amazing is that, there is real online tracking of your item

the very day that i checked, it arrived SG on 24 dec, 7.45am,

then when i checked again, at 10am, its with the courier

at 10.18am, the DHL person was at my house already

simply amazing...

got the whole set of oakleys at S$ 360.00 (including S$20.00 delivery), which includes, one pair of specs USD 170, 2 tool kits (accessories - ear socks and nose pads 2 sets x USD 10.00, one pc of specs box cover, USD 20.00 , 5 pcs of Microfiber cloth USD 30 , one free cleaning kit)

a very worthy deal.....

whereas in sg alone, the specs will have cost me S$440 alone...

I don't quite understand. You ordered the item on 27Nov2010 but received the item on 24 Dec 2010 (which is about one month later). It seems that the delivery took 4 days (from 20Dec2010), but what happened from 27 Nov 2010 to 20Dec 2010?
