magentis is a 2L car right?

i can't even get 10km/l on my accord with normal driving conditions!

yes bro.2L. maybe its the individual's driving pattern? i always drive air con on, but at speed of 80-90km/h on lane 2 90% of the time(occasionally 60-70 if slow moving traffic), depending on traffic speed. hence the figure i get.

anyway, back to topic on K5, maybe the new model have better fuel consumption. A friend of mine, is driving the i45, and claims fuel consumption is ard 11-12km/L(also depends on driver, he drives normal, not fast not slow.like ah-pek). Maybe we can expect same figures for the K5.

cheers

The old generation of Korean cars were less fuel efficient and typically you will get about 1-2km less than a non-Korean car of the same engine size and weight.

Now things are different. Technology can evolve very quickly. The first Korean car to change all that was the Avante even with a 4AT. From then onwards all Hyundai and Kia cars returned competitive fuel economy in spite of having only 4AT. Since last year, all Hyundai and Kia cars come with 6AT so I have every to believe that they will have the best fuel economy in their class. In America, the reviews have proved that the new Hyundai and Kia cars with the 6AT returned class leading fuel efficiency against their Japanese, European and American competitors.

5 years ago the Korean cars were nowhere but then the iphone was unheard of too. How things change so fast!

Neutral Newbie

Was just passing by Kia Alexandra on Sunday and noticed that the showroom was dammed busy so decided join the crowd.

First shipment all sold out by the 2nd day of launch. At that time there were 32 bookings for the 2nd shipment. Didn't ask how many units for the 2nd shipment but if they cannot bring in too many due to the huge demand in other countries, 2nd shipment sold out even before reaching our shores. Read from car magazines that the launch of this car is delayed in many other countries and waiting list very long due to overwhelming demand.

Didn't test drive due to the long wait cos have an appointment to keep to.

wow, good sales...

I was at the Kia showroom yesterday to meet a friend. Wow, the K5 looks gorgeous especially from the rear three-quarters the rump on the bonnet makes the car look solid [thumbsup] . I think the grey colored one is nice. Interior is sporty, some black leather material with red-stitching. The boot is big but shallow-ish. Nice 18" rims with 225/45R18 tyres .. the car sits very well with minimal wheel gap. Very nice looking car.

The only thing KIA needs to improve now is its LOGO. [:p]

Yes, that is right. I think it's high time for KIA to come out with some style logo to replace those alphabets as logo. It would do them good.

I meant the Avante back then.

Based on my last test drive back in 2009 before I bought my Forte.

The drive feel, I think Avante drive smoother.

Forte has more vibration and makes more noise compare to Avante.

That is what i concluded back then...

New Avante? well... Maybe the new owners can comment on that after launching in singapore.

:P

So u mean the current avante is better than forte. :D Then how come you didn't buy avante in 2009? [:/]

It looks very good from the side cos of the very sleek and low roofline. Sits well on the road with low ground clearance and sculpted bumpers and side skirts. Wheel gap is minimal and the wheels are flush with the body with its wide track giving it a broad sporty stance. Actually the interior does not look good in pictures but in reality it looks good. You gotta see the real thing. The angle towards the driver and its inclined layout looks good and the short, leather-trimmed gearlever mounted on the high centre console feels good too. Steering is small and thick. Front seating is low and sporty. The drawback is that space is compromised. Rear knee room is good but foot room is less than ideal due to the low front seats. Rear passenger visibility is restricted due to the small rear three quarter window. Its feels a bit like sitting in the rear of a very large coupe. Head room isn't good either.

The K5 is not for those who are very conservative and expects a feeling of spaciousness at the rear.

Its not cramped at all but it just doesn't feel spacious.

Sleek styling always comes at the expense of interior room. Its the same for the Merc CLS, Passat CC and 2+2 coupes. After all style is important too. Just my opinion.

Looks very good. I was seeing lots of it when i was in Middle East in Jan 11... Maybe because it was launched there. It is really an eye-catching design - they really got the right designer this time. But I do not like the new Kia corporate grill. Looks ugly on big cars, and terribly ugly on their smaller cars... Prefer a smiley design like a Peugeot's.

But as some have said, quality and badge. Perhaps the initial batches will have minor quality in-consistency and should be ironed out in the months to come. And KIA's logo should be re-designed to one which will give it the confidence and pride it should really have.

But otherwise, given how generously-equipped Singapore's cars will be... it really sweetens the deal. It is like asking yourself, would you pay $2,000 for a 50" Full-HD Samsung LED TV or for a 42" HD-Ready Pioneer LCD TV? Give the Koreans a chance. They have indeed come a long way, and their products are now within the standards that we are ready to accept. The Japs may have the longer history in car-building, but the Europeans have an even longer history than the Japs - but not all European makes make better cars than Japs. We have given the Japs a chance and they won us over. Now we should really give the Koreans their chance to shine and congratulate them on their stunning efforts in recent times.

Only minor vibration and noise.

I can deal with it.

I picked Forte over the rest due to others reasons like Value, Features, Function, Design.

Forte offer the best value on the whole.

COE up $9k

wonder any changes to the car price....

Usually, C&C Kia would up the price accordingly. But considering the Hyundai i45 2.0L updated price is $120,999 and the 2.4L with sunroof is at $130,999, should the K5 increase by about $10k more, priced at $138,999, I seriously wonder who will buy the K5 now.

It is the FC for korean car that erode the value.

The different in FC between a similar spec korean vs conti is like 5km/L

based on my mileage of 25K km a year, i save 938L of petrol in 1 year if i drive a conti

that's $1875 per year of saving.

not forgetting the servicing, my conti only need to service every 20K when the korean need to service every 10K

also, i can get back more paper value if i want to scrap my conti

5km/litre?

are u sure?

ok lets bring in apple to apple illustration.

BMW520i vs Kia K5

Saab9-3 2litreNA vs Kia K5

if K5 is 9km/litre.... u expect 520i/saab9-3 to be 14km/litre?
