COE A or B depends on whether bhp > 130. Loan depends on OMV. So a car with140 bhp but omv = $20k will be a cat b COE but can borrow 60% loan.

As long as the OMV is less than 20k, even it is a Cat B car, you still pay 40% dp.

50% cat b cars only if omv is above 20k, there are some which is under thus 40%.... Edited by Runforyourlife

Bros, the "All New" Optima looks to me same same as the one that is running around last few years. Is it facelift or brand new model?

Brand new under the skin. They retained the exterior cos that was what got the Optima its rave reviews in 2012.

Sonata = Hyundai

Optima = Kia

 

Not sure what you are trying to say....

 

Anyway, LTA provides lots of data on their website. For Dec, Kia registered 178 vehicles. Hyundai registered 150. Not that far off.

 

Dude... what I am saying is that despite the very low Sonata price ($112,999), you don't see many on the road. Cos it's a Korean car, not a Japanese or German make... so for the Optima being a Korean car, I wonder if it would attract that many orders especially when it's still about $122,999. So the point you made about raising the price by $1000 cos they have reached an order quota may not hold water.

This shows that mass market are not only brand conscious  but also shallow. [:p] . Optima look sportier.

 

It's the Singapore market... it is particularly acute here... hehehe...

Anyway, I went for a test drive today. The car price has not changed. It's still $121,999 standard package, meaning non-guaranteed COE and no free servicing. The platinum package at $124,999 gives you a guaranteed one-bid COE and 1 year free servicing (3 times, labour and parts, 1000, 10,000 & 20,000 km intervals).

 

There is only one model for the Optima K5.

Features:

- Auto headlights & wipers

- Auto-folding wing mirrors with LED signal repeaters

- E-parking brake with auto hold ( when you step on the brake and the car has come to a standstill, and after you release the foot brake, the auto hold will continue to apply the brakes. It auto cancels when you step on the gas and move off. At the next stop, it will come on again. So quite a neat feature, don't need to step on brake to hold the car still)

- Keyless entry & ignition (keyless entry, but must press on button of driver or front passenger handle to unlock. After you slam the door shut, must press the button to lock. No walkaway lock like my dad's Renault Fluence - but it has failed him a few times)

3-second auto boot release (stand behind the boot for 3 seconds and the boot lid pops open, can be switched off)

- 4 front and 4 rear parking sensors with Supervision cluster showing sensor feedback in full colour

- Gear change paddles

- Audio system built-in, usual USB, Aux, Bluetooth & phone function.

- Hill-start assist

- Vehicle Stability Management

- Electronic Stability Programme

- Traction Control with Speed Limiter (can be turned off)

- Driver & passenger vanity mirror lights

- Front map lights

- Welcome lights on inside of driver's handle and under wing mirors

- Rear aircon (pretty powerful, but no temp or fan controls, fan speed follows settings in front)

- Rear USB charging jack and Aux jack

- 60/40 fold almost flat rear seats, releases in boot

- Headlights washers (useless feature)

- Bi-xenon headlamps (normal & high beam)

- LED rear lights + high mount stop light

- Daylight running lights (tastefully done)

- Leather multi-function steering wheel (nice feel)

- Auto one-touch up/down windows all round with anti-strangle knock back

Handling and Ride

Superb. Very pliant but not jarring or crashy. Took road humps very well, especially those hard rubber speed bumps which I detest. Road imperfections are well absorbed, you get feedback, but you're not jarred. Quite clear that the suspension is stiffer than Jap but softer than a BMW. Steering wheel weights up nicely. Feather light at rest and very good tracking and feel on the road. Turn radius is very small.

 

Visibility is excellent up front. Auto headlights work as advertised. Came back into the sheltered service yard almost 6, getting a bit dim, lights came on automatically.

 

Power is good. Engine eager to rev, climbs the revs very easily to 5000 RPM. Transmission is excellent, very quick to change up and down, torque is good. Very quiet on the road, even when I revved to 5000 RPM (didn't know how hard to step on the gas), you hear a muted roar, not unpleasant at all. Tested passing power from 60 kmh and the car responds well, picks up speed pretty quickly. No flat spots.

 

Overall I think it's a superb buy... very good value, very good car indeed. I'm convinced... now need to wait for price to drop further and grow my piggy bank...

Thanks for the good review... I hope the OMV will drop to less than 20k (USD drops) so I can get this car into my consideration...

OMV is $23,000. I doubt the OMV will drop below $20,000. The previous Optima at the end of its life was still hovering around $23,000 to $25,000. Cos most of the features in the car are factory fitted.

Price is pretty close to Mazda6 2.0. Which has pretty much whatever K5 has + nicer looks + superb interior + branding.

 

Main reason is M6 OMV is below 20k.

 

Between M6 and K5.... I think majority will go for M6

actually one of the priority for me is the cabin noise. Heard that M6 is noisier than K5.

The base Mazda 6 has most of the features stripped down, for example, halogens headlights, no electric tailgate, etc.

Free upgrade this weekend to mz6 luxury if u have 50% to down. Same price.
