I think it is good that we continue to exercise like running or jogging even though we got no more IPPT.

There is an elderly man staying near my house who runs along the park connector regularly. He is faster than me most of the time. Or I may be a weak runner.

wa steady sia... old man pon beep beep :D

When I was doing last IPPT before MR, I try maintain my timing below 1m 30s for each round. Starting from 1st round, then 2nd round and so on till I can complete 6 rounds below 9m 45s. It took me two months and at least 4 times a week. There is no systematic approach, just keep on trying.

No regrets, spent less than 1 hour at Bedok camp, $400 cash in, 9m 41s at age of 33.

Currently starting all over for longer fit, the MR club at 5km in less than 25 min...still tryin

Wow, not bad. That is like my timing, 20 years ago, get NAPFA gold [laugh] Nowadays, no chance.

Yes, the recommendation for exercise is at least 4 or more times a week in order to see any fitness gains.

I'm curious about one more factor: are you married, and with children?? I think the physiology development as we age is a bit different between single and married (e.g. tendency to gain weight after marriage), so... just curious.

Yes, I'm married with 2 kids, and yes mentality and body is definately different after married. All conflicting because of one word, "stress". It's a powerful energy that make me drown in b**r, following day will definately be a run because awakening from those feeling high is f**k up. This normally end up in anger that makes me run even faster.

Currently taking on threadmill to track my progress, MR 25 is just a destination I set so that at least won't be running to nowhere.

Is it true that the heart is like the engine..the more you stress it the faster it fails?

Very good timing there..

I realised that too that 2.4km has no corelation with 10km. My 2.4km was always around 12min to 13mins since I ORD. I started joining run competition since 1 yrs back, my 10km timing has improve alot, from 1hr 10mins to now current 51mins. But when times my 2.4km, I still doing 12min-13min, never improve at all..

I think 2.4 km deals with speed and consistency and more apparent in this short distance run as compared to 10km.

Bro, I never believe in threadmill. Running outdoors is the best ^_^

u can noe the dist as well as speed on a threadmill too. What u do is set ur weight, gradient, speed in terms of km/h. For me I set 11km per hour for 30 min, so by the end of 30 min, I would have cover around 5.5km. Also set the gradient to 1 to simulate wind resistance when running outdoor.

The good thing is when running outdoor and out of breath, I tend to give up. But for threadmill, the belt keeps rolling and it is easier to push myself to the limits. Well, works better for me at this moment...

To regular runners/joggers here. what do u consider as running?? i consider myself running when the pace is 5min/km, above 5min is jogging.

Last time can RUN 10km, now cannot liao [bigcry] [bigcry]

Running is more strenous than jogging. Jogging just circulate the blood a little faster. Running may improve internal organs efficiency as well

However, overweight people should only cycle to avoid injuries to the knees

more or less right.. i will also take anything slower than 5m/km as jogging.

another way is the perceived 'siongness'

.. if you think its darn siong, heart and lungs bursting .. it is running to u. If you can talk at same time, definitely jogging. So when you are unfit, a jogging pace to others is running to you.. but as u get fitter, you can slowly improve your jogging speed first.. then body can take the strain when you push and run.

Here's my take. Car engine will never grow from a 1.6l to 2.0l if you train them. Heart is a muscle, like all muscle around your body, the lesser you use it, the more it shrivel. And like all muscle, if you use it more often like training and at times stress it(Within limits), it will grow stronger. The important thing is within limits, as injury will occur beyond that.
