Been a while since I started any thread on MCF...

I'm driving a almost 2 years Honda FIT RS. My daughter was recently added to my family lineup so I have now 3 kids (6, 3 & 4 months). Due the my daughter's arrival, I must now get a maid to help out with the chores and the kids. Of late I find that my car is a bit cramped even for the current lineup. Add a maid into the picture and it'll be more cramped than ever.

My car would be 2 years old in Dec 2010 and was thinking of changing to either a Civic or Stream of the same age Dec 08 or Jan 09. My question is that is it wise to take a 7 year loan on a 2 year old car?

If you have other makes in mind, please do share. Also do share what are the considerations that I should take note of.

Your thoughts please...

I calculated base on the current average selling price of $55k - 58k. My loan has about 23k more to go so I would have about 32k to down it all into the new loan. Monthly about 550.

I think Civic should be out, it is too small for 6 pax. Don't forget you are suppose to belt your kids on child seats.

Why don't considerate a full size mpv like picnic. Seriously stream space is not enough. Have you considerate the strollers space too.

If you have 3 kids, a left field option might be a second hand Honda Edix. Has six seats (convenient) but smaller than Stream (and thus cheaper I would think).

I sincerely urge you to retain your current car. It might seems that I am not answering your qn, but nothing beats new or own car. And for the fact that your loan almost cleared, keeping your car at the moment should be the best solution. We know that having car seat is important, but if there are simply too many child on board, it is impossible to get them one child seat each.

What's more, your 2nd child is only three, it should not be too crowded at the moment to just hang on to your current car. Just try to drive safely and if TP stop you, you can simply says that there is no place in this small car to place any car seat.
