Actually NSH route is quite fast. The only headache part is KL when you hit their jam.

The LJ is if your aircon compressor is on which connected to the engine by the pulley belt, your engine will have a pull back force thus acting as an engine brake n yr ride will eventually slow down.

I went on a trip to Genting next day after Deepavali.

Left home at 8am for 2nd link. Clear traffic on both sides. Filled up at the first Shell station at Kulai.

With cruising speed of 110kph and occasional overtaking, reached Jejantas R&R for lunch and toilet. Stopped 1hr.

Reached Genting 3pm. Checking in First World was a pain. Huge crowd.

 

Left Genting on a Monday at 11am and reached SG past 5pm with 1 stop at Jejantas also for late lunch.

Refilled in JB (of course) before heading home.

 

Toll from 2nd Link to Genting as follow:

RM 7.5 - 2nd link

RM 3.9 - To enter NSHW

RM 41.30 - Sungei Besi Toll

RM 5.00 - Karak Hwy

 

Toll from Genting to JB:

RM 5.00 - Karak Hwy

RM 41.30 - End of NSHW

RM 2.1 - Kulai

 

RM 57.7 via 2nd link and RM 48.4 via JB. Total RM 106.1

okies, for those new in driving up to GH. Probably might help you to know that on the NSH from Johore to melaka is a 2 lanes traffic. Once you pass by melaka exit/entry point it will turn into a 3 lanes traffic all the way to sungei basi toll. Safer and easier for you to crusie or do overtaking here. Maintain at speed limit and drive safe.

 

FYI, i normally start my journey around 3am and reach GH before sunrise. Lesser traffic and ample parking lots. However if you do leave around evening time 8pm to 10pm than must be more cautious on NSH as there are many heavy vehicles (coaches from sillypore, trailers etc) heading up north during this stretch of times. Early morning 5am to 6am not really a good time as well. Presumably if you are heading KL than very likely u will be caught in the morning rush hours. 2 cents.

That is fast. No recommended for most drivers & cars.

main factor affecting time to reach destination is the traffic condition (average speed travelled). average is about 4 to 5 hours to reach genting in a normal car at speeds of 120km/h (overtaking n breaks not inclusive), but do take not that at that kinda of speed, do give way to faster vehicles. (even buses n trailers drive faster than that). with experience n ideal time of setting off, u can reach there in about 3 to 4hours. as i used to go there like every month (b4 genting built a new branch here), i make it a challenge to reach faster. but it is still usually around 3 n half hours in my 2.0 mpv with 4 passengers (max out at 170km/h) with coffe/ smoke breaks. while going uphill, take the corner from outside in w/out letting go of accelerator, u will have more power 4 the climb.

coming back will always be faster. there was once i drove a souped up performance car n was still gambling when i realised it was 3.30am liao, n it was a working day. so i left after that hand n rushed all the way back, with 2 toilet breaks, i managed to reach s'pore at 6am (max speed travelled at 2**km/h). road was very clear n overtook all cars (total less than 20 nia) along the way.

i have been in a minor accident with a M plate car (due to m car suddenly jam brake when saw polis) n a stack of speeding tickets as momentos of the trips i had.

do note, maintenance n pre-travelling checks r important for long distance travels. n a word of advice, do not hog the outer lanes as some cars can really be flying.... u see them as a dot in the rear view n in no time they r at ur ass..... cheers n safe trips for all drivers.

No 1 concern - whenever lorries and coaches suddenly SWERVE into your lane while overtaking, causing you to brake hard.

If speed above 150, it will take some distance to brake to 80 (be careful).

 

Take care when going down slope, going down is more difficult than climbing.

Excessive braking can cause brake to lose the effectiveness, and sometimes we need to use gears for engine brake.

 

Going downhill, there are many humps..

I will be going genting for the first time since I was a teen. This time driving my family which consist of my beautiful kids. Can anyone recommend which hotel I should book? There are so many hotels that I am quite confused. Preferably one near the theme park and amusement centres as this tris is for the kiddos. Thanks.

U can try FirstWorld hotel. Bcos U can park yr car there and bring yr kids to the theme park easily, save yr time and energy. Also there r many restaurants at the indoor theme park to eat.

Cannot access the Genting website now, so cannot advise you about the online booking.

Request for room with view [mountain or theme park view]. Usually have to pay a little bit more.
