Kurty Supercharged October 19, 2010 Author Share October 19, 2010 my advise is not to buy such products or similiar.. if really a need like me, go for one that comes with a switch.. yes, it will cost more but really worth it. pretty cool too, when powered on, on blue LED emit light. Off, will be Red light. but again, japanese brand and make in China again..
Boxster 2nd Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 If yr recorder still working it is unlikely cause by the recorder Likely 1) There is a short in the extension socket 2) The insulation of the wires is so bad that it caused a short which draw excessive current but still not able to blow the fuse
Moredhel 2nd Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 If you do not get a satisfactory reply from autobacs, I suggest you bring this up to CASE. Documents needed: Receipt with shop logo, date of purchase and price. History of your attempts to lodge a complaint and their nonchalantly incompetent replies Cheap accessory nonwithstanding, the danger it could pose electrically to life and property is hugely damaging as an end consumer product easily available. Not to mention that such products should obtain a basic electrical QC or be taken off the shelf.
David Clutched October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 Being 12VDC can be misleading that at such low voltage fire is a far cry. For one thing is we do not know the rating for the wire insulation, and if you are thinking of asking the seller - very high chance that he would not entertain more than 3 seconds. Such product are rampant in the market. Buy at own's risk.

Chiawy 1st Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 I have a multiple socket extension in my car too. Initially while shopping for a multiple socket extension, I saw the one that TS has. When I look at the wiring and socket, I was shocked at how thin the wiring is and how cheapo the male adapter look. In the end purchased a more expensive branded but made in China one. Even though made in China, I believe being branded, their QC should be tighter at the factory floor bah. So far being using it for coming close to 11 months since the first day I got my car. Devices connected to it is my iphone battery pack, USB socket to charge another phone and occasionally to my GPS PND.

Such product are rampant in the market. Buy at own's risk. 12VDC is one thing. It's just the voltage rating. However, all CE items will come with a current rating, let's say a handphone charger, Input 12VDC Ratings don't matter because they have a bridge rectifier circuit to control the output, which is 5VDC=500mA. So the wires are expected to be able to easily take a constant current of 500mA running through it, with a fuse of possibly 0.6/0.75A The insulation burnout happens when the wires heat up due to improper wire types, e.g. telephone wires for voltage and current transfer and this heat gets transferred to the insulation. Fuse doesn't work because it's wrongly rated and/or the fuse is correctly rated but wires are crap.

Jman888 Moderator October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 Talking about charger, can I leave the charger in the socket (with indicator light on) all the time? I will only plug the charger to my phone when I am in the car.
Pisces69 6th Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 I suspect there was a short-circuit in e 3way socket. E copper wire that burned out looks quite thick.

Pisces69 6th Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 There should be a fuse at the tip of the (black/red) plug!! I am surprised that it can burn up the wire until like that. Really scary...lucky for you it did not create anything worst. If its made in China, im not surprised e least.
Pisces69 6th Gear October 19, 2010 Share October 19, 2010 Autoba%# is an importer. they do not QC all the things in their store. Even if u complaint, at most they will do is replace or refund. But ty hv a responsiblity as a retailer to ensure ty sell only reliable products. Wait lots of their stuff got these type of issues, nobody dare to buy anything more from them. Like that ty can close shop already.
