Rayleigh 6th Gear October 25, 2010 Share October 25, 2010 I am considering buying a DSLR and I am stuck between D5000 and E550. Anyone can give some pointers about your preference? ↡ Advertisement

Kxbc Turbocharged October 25, 2010 Share October 25, 2010 Both are good brands. Both have their + and -. Boils down to the man holding the camera. But based on aesthetics, if you have smaller hands or if your gf/wife will use it more often, the Canon will fit better in smaller hands. Nikons are typically bigger and heavier physically which may suit those with bigger hands better. Then you have to consider whether the real need for a DSLR. A DSLR does not give you better pics. If one does not understand the basics of photography, give him/her a Leica or medium format also no use. Photos can still be badly composed and out of focus (focus wrongly). Then you may also want to consider if you really want to lug around a big camera body + 1 or 2 lenses when you travel. Sometimes, it's good to just have a PnS which fits swee swee into your jacket pocket. btw, I have a Nikon DSLR (first generation D7). I can't shoot with a PnS. I don't know how to handle it and my reaction time is damn slow vs using a D/SLR.
Wind30 Turbocharged October 25, 2010 Share October 25, 2010 if nikon try the D7000. If budget is lower like below 1k, get the pentax k-r. I think currently the pentax K-r is really much better value if you are willing to accept a "different" lens mount.
Mdfaz 2nd Gear October 25, 2010 Share October 25, 2010 Do some research and read up on forums about dslr. I like canon a lot as well (i have 2 canon pns) and was looking to trade-in an eos 550d when i looked further and found pentax kx. Costs much less and comes with dual kit lens. in terms of image, i don't see how it is less capable than 550d to produce a good image. Now the latest is pentax kr for entry level dslr. of course if you ask anyone on the street, its either nikon or canon. but i advise you to read up more. go to clubsnap, lots of resources over there :)

Estrangable 5th Gear October 25, 2010 Share October 25, 2010 most people will ask u to get a canon or nikon for dslr....but if u are willing to explore a bit more, u can consider pentax. It's cheaper and the best bang for buck

It's cheaper and the best bang for buck I received WTF looks when friends ask me for recommendations and I say pentax. Don't dare ask me after that. Always happen. Received very shocked looks when I say I buy Olympus cam at $1500. They sound as if I'm stupid.

Mustank Hypersonic October 25, 2010 Share October 25, 2010 indeed true!!!! when i bought my canon 40D, my pictures turn out like shiit hardware gives one the option to take extreme pictures at extreme conditions but whether the option can be excercised is dependent on the imagination power and skill of the man behind the hardware if one has no intention to practise, then it is like giving an old man a ferrari
Estrangable 5th Gear October 25, 2010 Share October 25, 2010 some people are just plain ignorant...they only know 2 brands - nikon or canon. Pentax specialise in camera and have been in the business for so long...same goes for olympus ↡ Advertisement
