AhChong 2nd Gear November 13, 2018 Share November 13, 2018 Bro u are driving 2.5L on the 19 inch wheels right? So u find the Michelin much better than the stock in terms of noise? I realized our 19 inch size is not easy to find. Only 4 or 5 models have 225/45r19. And PS4S is one of them... Yes, it is quieter than stock. Read some reviews and the thing that won me over was actually it's performance coupled with a long life span. Previously all performance tires wears out faster than comfort, so i was surprised that the new PS4S were reviewed as such. The quietness was noticed at cruising speeds around 90 to 100. It was a surprise to me as i was not expecting it. You can also feel it is gripper especially at abrupt sharp turns. My Bridgestones lasted 45k with some thread left. Let's see if it is really long life for PS4S as claimed. ↡ Advertisement

richard_crl032 6th Gear November 14, 2018 Share November 14, 2018 New car better check with TEK, think they have one inhouse installer that can help to install Nice.. if together with F1 , would be best of sound liao Hi Budgetice, But fm radio of even F1 with twin diversity antenna sucks .. I do like query from passengers on the brand of HU when they find local fm97.2 still playing at B4 of mall carpark .. haha ! I lament the death of our dab broadcast by mediacorp 5 yrs ago and my F1 used to have 1 cd in it, 6 cds in dvd changer and 6 cds in cd changer but these 13 cds stayed there for 5 yes unchanged .. primarily for demo only and not listening to music. Now with internet radios I get very nice surprises of oldies and learn new nice songs that I never heard before. Cheers. Richard

Hi Chong, Was toying with the idea to change out the stock bridgestone t005a of my mazda 2.0 collected on Sat but not motivated ... the car is a bit disappointing on nvh .. simple luxury interior but noisy overall. Even if change out tyres, the 2.0 engine is still quite vocal during more pickup and wind noise is quite obvious ... I fear and expect nosier engine and more obvious wind noise with quieter tyres since it is all relative as found in my soundproofing venture of my forester xt. Btw, stock qashqai 1.2 turbo is much more quieter but it has its own issues, including being underpowered and lousy gearbox that make mazda 6 2.0 still betta for sure. 2.5 engine will be quieter since 2.0 have to stressed a bit for pick up but 19" tyres will be more noisy for sure. The best will be 2.5l with 17" rim and tyres with more rubber and less width ... just left with simple needed fix for wind noise with red inserts into stock door rubber insulators. Cheera. Richard PS: should have gotten the 2.5l ..lol !

T005 is already considered a quiet tyre within BS's range. or simply increase your music volume haha Also need to consider the roads u are travelling on. I drive on KPE most of the time and it's very silent in the car. but once i go onto TPE, the road noise increases singnificantly

The 19 rims gives the car a much more sporty look but much less comfortable. Hi Hobbes, Indeed look is critical as with ride comfort and 19" with low profile tyres are nice .. though all subjective and to each preference. I also wun go 17" given the choice but can also consider 18" then since look is ok lah while you can save a bit from FC with also betta pickup but yet comfy with many tyre options although FC is really a mooted point with what I experienced with 2.0 and can expect the same of 2.5l with variable piston engine off/on technology. Not familiar with Bridgestone tyres but T005 is certainly not quiet and you can judge from the threads of bigger "pads" while Forester XT stock Bridgestone Dueler are certainly with fine threads like the Michelin Primacy 3 ST that I am on. Issue with Dueler is that they are very slippery and even hazardous imho down concrete mscp or painted surface when wet but I had yet to lose grip on Primacy 3 ST with coveted quietness ... I do not feel I need more sporty aka grippy aka noiser Michelin Lattitude Sports or mighty PSS4 ... yet. Indeed road condition are critical but we cannot control this unlike tyre change, soundproofing, autofoam, door insulation, dashboard insulation etc. and even luxury higher end car of lexus, merc, audi etc. benefits from such efforts unless you get to super luxury cars with double glazed glass windows, active noise cancellation system etc. especially those vacuum pump equipped ones cos it is so air tight that you cannot close the doors unless fitted so. For raising music volume, there is a big difference of listening to noise of stock car system and noise of a customised car system ... stock car system may not differs since you are already hearing noise but for customised car system, we pay a lot to raise SNR aka Signal-to-Noise Ratio with high cost equipment and installation (hence sound proofing etc) that results in least noise possible and more music which noise from road, tyres, windows etc. will defeat this purpose and prevent that musical experience. Richard PS: should have gotten the 2.5l ..lol ! You are probably right, more rubber should be quieter. Just that the Mz6 looks great with big rims. The bridgestones are good, at least initially. You might as well use it for a couple of years before changing. I’ve driven the 2.0 version, as a courtesy car for 2 days. It is louder at cruising speeds. However, think of the savings as it’s priced about 25k higher. At the time I got the 2.5, it was only priced 10k higher for the 2.5 Lux model with all the works over the 2.0 exec due to a promotion. I figured the 10 k is very worth it for the 19 inch rims and all the added electronics and ieloop. After all, changing rims and tyres will easily cost about 3 to 4 k. OMV was almost 30k compared to 23k for the 2.0 version. Guess at that time where Coe was at 50 plus k, no demand if no promotion and they were getting rid of the existing stock, (not demo or display car). White interiors were offered additional 2 k discount iirc. However, I couldn’t find body Color I like. For those who are still shopping, wait for the promos, if not in a hurry. There is actually a lot of rubber compared other 19 inches I see in more expensive cars. I think it’s a great compromise on comfort, performance and most of all looks. Downside is the tire choices are limited. For noise, the soft purr on sports mode and the initial throwback is music to my ears. Especially when a loud car with big spoilers come up and tailgate you when cruising at 90 to 100. Flick the switch, step on it and it takes them forever to catch up and irritate you.
