Polish based on the condition of the paintwork. If you see fine scratches and swirl marks all over your car, regardless of age, then might be a good idea to polish.

Remember polishing actually removes a top layer of clearcoat to get rid of the scratches. If you polish too much, then eventually you will run out of clearcoat and start polishing off the paint itself (which is bad).

Really depends on how well your upkeep is or not. I clean my 6 month old car every week and apply a new layer of wax on every other week. When I got the car I put 3 layers of wax on it (with curing time in between). To date, I have minimal scratch or swirl marks - so no need to polish.

If your friend polished the car when there were no scratches or swirls, then he's wasting energy and shortening the lifespan of the paintwork.

If its because you just want the exercise, then there are some polishes without 'cut' AND just a glaze to fill the scratches. Something like meguiars ultimate polish. Or you could just polish someone else's car.

I saw a maid clean a new E-class at my Condo. Made me cry. Was using dishwashing liquid to clean the car and to dry the car down she just used newspaper.

Bro, may I know what wax brand you are using? I liked to use Osren sealant for my previous car, but it's not common everywhere. Would like to seek alternative.

During the collection, my SE advised to use the normal car shampoo (without any wax) will do. Reason is because the car came with the brila coating already, hence any waxing content may reduce or strip the effectiveness of the brila coating.

I'm currently using autoglym ( PH Neutral) car shampoo from autobacs.

Sounds like the Brila coating is not very durable, one wash and off it goes?

Brila is an inorganic compound that can only be removed totally using a special removal agent, or naturally worn off by weather elements.

Wax in shampoo only makes the car looks smudged as the wax has no paint to adhere to. Again, wax can still be removed by shampoo if accidentally applied on brila.

I'm using meguiars nxt wax. It's fully synthetic, but works well on a red car, easy to apply and quick to dry and clean off.

I also actually use meguiars hybrid ceramic wax which I layer top of the NXT wax. It's water activated and pretty easy to apply. Just apply it as part of my routine to dry the car.

Never said it was just one wash or how many washes. But its just something that SE advised to use normal shampoo will do.

Yes my SE also advise just use water or shampoo without wax, so I'm quite confused when some of u guys are using shampoo with wax content.

Anyway thanks for all the advise. Right now am only using washing with just water about twice a week. Was trying to get advice on when to start applying or recoat Brila again.

Anyway still do not know the difference between wax n polish. Or is there a difference?

IMO, using just water is not good enough to wash off the dirt. It might even make things worse.

Just imagine - if the surface stil have dirt after water washing and then you use a cloth to wipe across the surface...you may end up "scratching" the top level of coating.

Anyway it's just my layman terms and my own thoughts.

Anyway, its just a car.  Who cares?

Does not do anything for you or your car.

Agree, washing with just water is not advisable as it may not dissolve any organic residues. A detergent or surfactant is necessary.

Own car for over 1.5years from new.

Sales lady mentioned just use water wash will do due to coating.

I seldom wash car on own, not in my daily routine, but new car so 'on' a bit.

Due to coating, there is this "pebble" effect and the dirt and dust on car body was visibly. Can wipe off easily with damp cloth.

Tried own wash but not also went car wash at petrol kiosk.

The pebble effect wear off after 6 mths (I think). And dirt less visibly (silver car).

Now, only wash at petrol kiosk.

Above for people that just want clean car, not "kim kim" car.

I'm also on SPC ron 95 since day 1. Been great for me. 50-50 urban/city. Getting at least 8L/100km 🙂 I feel not worth paying for 98 as the FC wasnt fantastic, tried it twice.

I'm using this SONAX  gloss shampoo, brila ppl said it ain't the best but pass. I think brila coating sucks, it gets hairline scratches very easily. But it's free, I'll definitely not get it again after 6mths.
