Skoda is the "cheaper" brand within the Volkswagon brand empire (which also includes Audi, amongst others). So the stuff they use tend to be the "older" tech as opposed to what is being used in VW cars.

 

The 6-speed DSG being used in the Superb, IIRC, is a "wet" DSG which is an older design. It was the newer "Dry" one which gave problems, presumably because of the reduced heat dissipation of the dry clutch design, though it was intended to improve fuel economy (a wet clutch absorbs more of the torque entering it).

 

In any case, DSG (wet or dry) also warrants special care, which is only your duty as its owner. Treat a DSG properly and you should still be okay.

Then you might want to see if TEK will bring in the turbocharged variant of the 6 and CX-5 lor. Servicing-wise shouldn't be an issue because the turbocharged 2.5L is effectively the same engine that's currently powering the CX-9.

 

On paper the 2.5L Turbo's 0-100 km/h is 6.1 seconds.

 

With regards to reliability, nothing beats Lexus. The cars they build are nigh-on bomb-proof. Good feedback from my seniors (much more senior in rank too) colleagues who own Lexus.

 

There was this informercial on FB about this chap in the U.S who has been driving his Lexus LS since 1989. Almost 900,000 km travelled and still going strong!

I think it's a matter of needs.

 

In terms of interior and boot space, Skoda superb wins no contest. It even beats out VW Passat.

 

In terms of exterior appearance, I have to give it to the Mazda 6. It has always been a handsome sedan.

 

Engine wise, Superb is 2.0L Turbo. On paper it's fast, 0-100 in 7s. To even get close to that kind of power, you need the 2.5L Mazda 6. Even then on paper the engine is inferior to the Superb's. But bear in mind that turbocharged engines need more care and must respect service interval.

 

Refinement-wise, Superb L & K has some fancy interior stuff like adjustable ambient lighting, suspension setting change, etc, typically seen in higher-end Contis.

 

Safety specs wise, Superb doesn't have autonomous braking, and no heads-up display which you can get from Mazda 6 from Executive trim onwards. Other stuff like adaptive LED headlights, only Mazda 6 Luxury trim have. Skoda still using Bi-Xenon headlamps, even in their highest L & K trim.

 

So all in all, test drive both. See which one fits your needs and your wallet.

Surprisingly skoda superb doesnt come with autonomous braking only available at kodiaq.

 

Regarding headlight skoda still using adaptive bi xenon headlamp. Maybe superb facelift will come with LED headlight

 

I think if one look for power and space should look at superb. Because i find mazda 6 too crampy although i like the design.

If you check the UK Reliability Index list for family cars that I posted earlier, you will find the ranking of the Superb some way below the Mz6.  I consider this list more accurate because it is created using actual warranty stats and not by opinion survey.

People’s egos are huge. Dissing the car is no different to dissing them. For me, if a car is good, it’s good. I had my share of lousy cars too.
Not like I destined the car and I have a huge stake in it such that I get upset with people critizing my work.

Sometimes people just need validation from others that they made the "right" choices.

 

We forget that these expensive toys (2nd in cost only to our homes) are merely machines, and hence, it's perfectly normal and acceptable to make objective comparisons between them.

 

Once you accept that your xxx,000 purchase is a set of 4 wheels and an engine (with some subtle differences in engineering and specifications), it's much easier to swallow.

 

Having said that it's perfectly normal to have biases with regards to a certain brand. Because it's open knowledge that some brands make s***boxes all the time.

 

Note that this applies only to "common folk" like most of us. It doesn't apply to those who can afford to buy Aston Martins, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Ferraris or Lambos every week. Those folk already own status symbols that coincidentally have 4 wheels and an engine, no need validation of any sort.

The new model is a facelift. The curves, interior space, boot space, even infotainment (short of bigger screen in the newer model) remain largely unchanged.

 

What has changed is more weight with greater emphasis on sound-proofing, as well as the front grille. Some subtle changes in the chrome strips around the front and rear as well.

 

Also in the new model: ventilated seats, projection-type Heads-Up-Display.

 

As to whether it's worth the 40k more, it's entirely subjective. I missed the window when they lelong lelong clearing the old stock at a good price.

Thanks for offering your opinion. I think those are features are ok to forgo at $40k ($18k after you factor in the standard depreciation per year at $11k)

 

So it is not because the engine starts to have problems after 2 years is what i am more concerned.

 

How is the maintenance cost of Mazda 6? Hopefully long time users can feedback.

They r really useful to block the sun. But after putting one week, I took them off to avoid marks at the door panel soft rubber (where the sunshade will give pressure). Only put it on when needed.

I think the YouTube video I saw says nearly a million miles clocked on the LS. It is leaking oil really bad. Needs 1liter top up every 1000miles. So constant flow of oil change.
