Hi Richard

A bit of noob here... pivot ethrottle....what does it do and how is it different from sports mode which I understand holds the car at higher rpm. Thanks ð

Hi Szekt,

Similar but it has 3 modes of eco, normal and sport and 5 and 7 varying degrees of effects for eco and sport modes to select to your preference.

It also stays with chosen setting unlike stock sport mode when you restarts your car.

Basically, it takes the stock response of your accelerator and sensitises it ... reverse defaults to normal mode if you wire it accordingly.

Distractors argue that it is no different from using your feet to push faster but my thinking is that nobody's right foot will be as fast or as accurate as electrons running down a wire.

https://pivotjp.com/product/thf_c/thf-e.html

One caveat, it is addictive and your FC will suffers cos stock setting is optimise for FC and driveability ... but it does provide nice option especially up north where petrol is cheap and safety is top priority.

Chèers.

Richard

The NVH is the most obvious I feel. I tested the 2017 MZ6 model a few times with a Friend who was also looking at CX5 2.5 in end 2017. The 2018 car has many chassis changes and also under carriage soundproofing done to give better NVH. I read they use liquid filled bushings and new shocks. As a result the car is quite a bit heavier

6) Acceleration (just needs to be decent, I am okay once 0-100 is less than 10 seconds)

Which probably explains why the 0-100 numbers are slower than the pre-FL model even though the engine is about the same...

Having sat in the pre-FL Mazda 6s belonging to 2 of my colleagues I can say mine definitely sounds more quiet to be in.

Can't beat a Lex, but that's in another category altogether. You can almost buy 2 Mazda 6 2.0L executive with the price of 1 Lexus ES 300h.

Back to Mazda 6, I think you do get quite good value for money for what you pay. But it also depends on what you value. It is much easier to decide what you DON'T want as opposed to what you want.

At the time I was buying, I factored in the following:

1) Wife's decision (arguably THE most important!)

2) Cabin and boot space (doesn't need to be like CX-9 or Audi Q7 but should be comfortable)

3) Hip position of seating (cannot be too low as I ferry not-so-young family members as well)

4) Budget (duh, I don't have unlimited cash)

5) Handling characteristics (shouldn't make me feel like my car is going to tip over when I'm cornering at 50+ km/h)

6) Acceleration (just needs to be decent, I am okay once 0-100 is less than 10 seconds)

7) Components and reliability (wasn't too keen on anything with dry dual-clutch given the type of driving I typically do, which is d**king around in traffic, a lot)

8) Long-term ownership costs (servicing costs, running costs, etc)

9) Safety features (nothing less than NCAP 5 stars)

10) Word-of-mouth about reliability of brand from various seniors, colleagues, ex-classmates, etc

The fact that the Mazda 6 is a handsome sedan was an incidental benefit.

I don't any 2.0 N/A Engine can hit 0-100km/h in less than 10 Secs,only a 2.0 Turbocharged Engine can do,or a 2.5 N/A Engine.

U referring to Madza only?

Honda VTEC 1.6 can hit that easily sub 8sec

none of them can make a 1.6NA sub 8secs car

I feel that it is what. My older Cefiro 2.0L V6 is already quite close to that. Then subsequently the Cefiro 2.3L V6 is sub-10 le.

The Toyota Prius subsequently was much longer than 10 but still acceptable given what it's good at.

These days a 1.5L Turbo, 2.5L NA or 2.0L Turbo all can achieve sub-10.

Honda engine B16 B18 are all sub 8 sec since mid 90

EK4 1.6 NA is 7.2 sec and that was in 1996. Before this those EG 6 oredi 8 sec

Now i believe is emission standard tighter so use smaller engine with turbo.

quite a few NA Mazda can do 0-100 below 10s:

CX-3

Mazda 3 2.0

MX-5

Either you are very young, or you are not a car enthusiast.
