MAZDA 6

Hi Sze,

Yes, I did for 1.3 yrs old forester with positive results and hence also did so for the mazda 6.0 executive.

However the designs of the stock door seals of both cars are a bit difference.

For the mazda 6, the one on chassis has step that the Artex rubber round strip does not offer improvement and was not inserted there while the one on the door with Artex rubber round strip is a flap design which also does not make it any better ... the forester uses the one on the chassis and without step with Artex strip nicely pressed down for improved sealing .. hope it make sense when you feel both the chassis and door seals of your mazda.

I find the much cheaper amon door seal to have more notable difference .. and I added just a short sponge per photo that alleviate this notable wind noise behind driver's right ears per photo.

Need more SP on doors and floor pan as well as probably autofoam as I find the road and tyre noise much more apparent than my forester with them but the new michelin primacy 4 ST tyre's thread design also look and sound noiser than the older primacy 3 ST tyres on the forester after 35k km despite claim by Michelin that the newer primacy ST is 0.5db quieter.

Btw, the forester us also with generous amount of 3M insulation into dashboard .. behind glove compartment, headunit, speedometer and very importantly, under the empty space below the speedometer.

Cheers.

Richard

Hahaha i guess you are very particular about the noise. I test drove mazda 6 before i booked one today and i found the cabin pretty quiet, even when on the move at 70km/h. Perhaps my benchmark is different - mazda 3 which is famous for being noisy haha

Great thanks for sharing

Congrats, you book from the ex stock on promo on the board? Didn't see a white color on the board.. Maybe I missed it. I am referring to leng kee, I saw there earlier to pay up the balance for next Fri collection.

Good luck to next week bidding.

Haha not ex stock but its on its way to sg. It will be cheaper if they have ex stock tho :/

Thanks so much for your reply ðð. I also saw on DrArtex website they also do four door and floor insulation. What are your thoughts? It sure if our 2018 Mz 6 already had some stock soundproofing materials there. ð

Hi Sze,

After autofoam at KL auto, I now recommend owners to go there.

Autofoam is only 5kg for whole car at myr3.3k and addresses transmitted tyre and suspendion noises while they do less drastic SP for doors and floor i.e. less heavy i.e. less pick up+FC killing as well as all doors, bonnet, tailgate seals for about myr7.5k or sgd2.5k in total.

In comparison, my SP one for forester done locally is much more elaborate i.e. heavier i.e. fc killing albiet stock 350nm torque means no problem with pick up but already sgd3.5k or myr10k without autofoam and sealing.

I tried my kaki's forester after SP, seals and autofoam at KL Auto cos he tested mine and wanted the same quietness .. it is feels comparable but cheaper and lighter.

Cheers.

Richard

PS: plan a 2 nite KL shopping and food trip .. some do in 1 day and drives back to sgp which I do not recommend as it is better for autofoam to cure as much as possible over 1-2 nites.

Hi soul,

Yes, road noise of this FL mazda 6 2.0 is not too bad but engine is vocal if into some spirited driving ... guess it is tune for great FC seen of about 13km/l.

Yes, I am comparing with my forester xt with quite effortless pick up at 350nm torque and 240bhp and I have hearing ocd (pls see photo of custom rear boot board for ICE with diy added diffusers ...every bit counts) but most importantly the mentioned SP and autofoam done with quieter cabin and hardly any road or tyre noise unless road surface is coarse.

The pre FL mazda 6 is quite different and noiser .. I swapped rims with neighbour with then 3 mths old one and found out this.

Cheers.

Richard

PS: yes, mazda 3 is noisy especially for rear passengers from rear tyre areas ... like honda jazz but those are different categories of cars I guess

Hi Sze,

Haha ... just a journey with no destination until the final one.

I do like to check out why certain cars are quieter and unless into active noise cancellation that is a no no for ICE junkies like me or super double glazed glass with vacuum pump to allow closing of door due to complete sealing of merc S class, I try to emulate the same if economically possible to get a bit closer.

Cheers.

Can only admire your achievements... did a quick search and don’t think anyone does autofoam in Singapore

Hi Sze,

Affirmative ... KL Auto used to be in Singapore but boss decided to go home and hence we can only go to KL to do this.

Cheers.

Hi all, just like to check what's the actual fuel efficiency of the 2.0l M6?

On paper it says 14.7km/l. Just wondering if that's rate in Singapore?

If mostly travel on highway, it is quite achievable. Mine is about half highway, I got 8.6L to 8.8L per 100km. Slightly better than 11km⁄l

In a small chat group, I saw values from 7.4 to 10.5 L/100km

Neutral Newbie

Anyone bought Mazda 6 wagon? Is it as good as the sedan? Any issues driving the wagon.

I am looking for a family car, and The boot space for wagon should be larger than the sedan?

Thanks

Wagon has a slightly shorter wheelbase compared to the sedan, so rear legroom is also about 3 cm less. I am 1.8M and rear headroom is better compared to the sedan. My colleague has the sedan, so everytime I sit at the rear my head brush against the roof. Drive quite similar when I test drove both cars and the SE told me the wagon is more nimble as it is shorter, I cannot tell the difference.

For my 2.5 I’m averaging 9.2-9.4L/100km oh 60% urban/40% highway.

This is done on Petronas RON97.

When I used Petron RON97 I get 9.8-10L/100km.

(Yes I pump in JB)

Hi JL,

Wagon nicer but not sure if you are aware that it will only be 2.5l with other brand options and not the vfm 2.0.

Cheers.

The wagon has shorter overall length than sedan.

Wheelbase is actually shorter hence also rear legroom. I was looking at the wagon previously.

Online Specs show wagon to be heavier than equivalent 2.5 sedan too. Yes rear headroom is higher.

2018 2.0 M6.

Typical drive with 60% highway and 40% city will give btw 7.2-7.5 ltr per 100km

Average 7.8 over 6k km of driving

However, I managed to clock 5.6 ltr in one of my 16km commute on PIE-CTE. Speed abt 70-90kmph

If I drive with a light foot, 6-6.2 l on highway is not difficult to achieve.
