Electric Toothbrush

I bought a Philips Sonicare, blue colour, in UK a few years ago for S$90.  It broke and it was replaced three or four times can't remember now I think I gave details near the start of this thread.

Eventually it was replaced for free by the Sonicare Pink version and that has worked flawlessly since for quite a few years.  You should change the flosser head every six months but I use them for nearly a year or so.

I agree with you about Brush Head costs.  Same as replacement ink for .Printers.  It's where manufacturers make their profits.

To be truly organic, the bamboo toothbrush bristle should not be made of any kind of plastics, bcuz the bristles are the ones that touch your teeth and your mouth, not the bamboo stick you are merely holding onto.

So what shall the organic toothbrush bristle made of ?

horse tail maybe.

When I worked in Ghana I was surprised by the size of toothpicks they used until I was told they were chewing sticks.

I tried them and they really are brilliant.  I brought a handful back here but my wife didn't like me using them sitting in front of the TV.

I was using the cheapo vitality oral b battery powered.

Finally got sick of trying to remove the base everytime need to change batteries (it's not easy to remove).

And also some of my gums seem to be receding since I switched to powered.

I think this is partly contributed by overbrushing.

I didn't realise that until I read more. The power of the electric toothbrush means u need to be more conscientious about overbrushing.

Opted to get this oral b Pro 2000 set of 2 from lazada

Highest speed. Gum bled the first time.

I also got tired of Oral B battery powered one. [:p]

I have to keep cleaning it, by removing the brush head, after every brush.

Also replacing the batteries (I used rechargeables) starts to become a chore.

So I got myself a super duper cheap Philips.

It runs on lithium-ion battery. One charge seems to last forever.

And it vibrates at much higher speed (up to 62000 brush movement/min).

I got it for about $60 shipped to Sg

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078GVMVRH/

The charger is AC 100~240Vac, so can just plugged in without a transformer.

I didn't know the cheaper Philips was at this price. My cursory search in Sg websites were all about 100+ dollars

Well oral b Pro is NiCd. At <60 for one, i think it's a good enough buy.

I think oral b Pro and sonic care should be roughly sama sama.

Pro 450 is not at top speed though. This Pro 2000 is value for money for the oral b range.

Oral b has different ranges of speed. But Philips sonic care all the same speed.

Can definitely feel the difference.

This is what I am using. How do you adjust the speed?

Hmmm oh no la. Usually there's one speed, though my one seems to have two.

But we are talking about the max speed of the rotation as a distinguishing factor for whether its a top end model.

Haha not a choice of speeds, more like what's its max rotation.

My gums still keep atrophying. Quite disturbed by this. Not sure is it due to residual effect from my treatment earlier this year.

Before this year, I've never had gum atrophy though of course i had only basic dental hygiene habits.

I've always brushed twice a day and see dentist almost twice yearly for quite a while. Though flossing is always been my weakest link in terms of good dental hygiene habits.

Since late July,

- already swapped to the higher end toothbrush

- changed my brushing technique to avoid over-brushing and spend enough time on each quadrant

- started using Listerine nightly

I consume some sugary things but definitely not a large consumer. Going to try cut some of it out from my diet.

I'm going to start flossing regularly at least nightly. Increase the mouthwash to morning as well.

As usual with many humans, only last minute then start to grab Buddha's foot  [:/]

Going to see Dentist soon.

ARGH.

I have one too. I don't like it though. Messy like hell. U can only use while showering.

It's more like to help u remove plaque buildup from your gums.

I'd rather floss manually which i think gets the food bits out better.

Frankly with the better electric toothbrushes, i don't think water flossing is necessary. Now with the better toothbrush, the amount i can remove with even manual flossing is minimal.

Water flossing vs manual flossing.
