If COE is 100k..... Just imagine depreciation just for COE alone is 10k a year, not counting depreciation for OMV n car.

How many people can save 10k a year?

It is like throwing $10,000 EVERY year.... hehehehehehe

WOW 100k....

Neutral Newbie

one way for garmen to control number of cars on the road is to do away with the OPC scheme.

another way is to some sort of a limit to a max of 2 cars per household.

another way is also to set a minimum amount of $downpayment to purchase a car

another way is said by a bro here is to control the number of class 3 learners per year

there are many ways but naturally our garmen choose to up the $$$

I'm glad that COE goes up because this is when people really consider whether they really NEED a car (eg family with kids/old folks) or they just WANT to own one. By reducing unworthy car owners from the road, traffic will be less congested and likely reduce inconsiderate young drivers.

The # of fatal accidents, road bully incidents and daily jams are just getting ridiculous. Time for traffic house-keeping.

There's no big deal about owning a car but Singaporeans just love to own one (and expensive ones) despite MRTs/buses are already well connected.

For now, I'll enjoy my ride till EOL.. [wave]

Why must you say "inconsiderate young drivers"? it's just "inconsiderate drivers" without the "young". I am 22yo and I believe I'm consider young on the road. People signal, I will give way even if they wanna cut me in front unless I'm queueing for a full carpark. haha~ Also, I have experience not once, but twice so far, putting signal and changing lane and some old uncle on that lane from far behind (at least 20m) just gotta speed up even though the gap is so damn big and his itchy fingers just got to high beam and horn me once he reach near my backside and sad to say, they look at least in the forties to fifties and not some young drivers. Normally I change lane in congested places, most of the time the older people won't give way.

Okay.. Next up, food for thought. For younger people, it doesn't matter if the price increase. Their parents got the money to buy a car for their children to begin with. What makes you think the younger people out there won't drive their parent's car if they didn't buy them one. [sunny]

PS: Don't tell me when you say young drivers, you meant age 25+. [knife][whip]

Yup, no big deal in owning a car. But without a car, we did worry about transport if we are going out till late at night.. lastly, i hope you don't take any offence here and enjoy your ride. ^^

Singaporeans freaking rich. Dun mind paying such amt for coe...I can understand for CAT B which typically are made up of mercs, bmw, audi and lexus buyers..but for CAT A? I thought no matter how tight the coe quota supply is, once it reach a certain premium level, people will just stay away from it and there is a limit to how much it can go up..but no, there are people who buys bread and butter cars whom are willing to pay 47k for the coe..I find it incomprehensible...

It is just a matter of adjusting expectations down. That is what I did. Either from looking for brand new change to pre-owned or changing to a "cheaper" brand/model. For e.g. instead of buying an Altis, buy a Vios instead. It is the marginal owners who were intending to buy the really budget cars that or those who don't really want a car badly enough or those who die die must have a certain type of car that get squeezed out.

But for the majority, they will just adjust expectations down and accept that their budget fetches a "lesser" (so to speak) car. So demand will still be there.
