The convertible but not the 320. It is rather underpowered (as in seriously) for the money spent. For less $$ look around other options. An EOS does everything better for less, the new one even manges to look half good (Most hardtops are quite butt ugly). Convertibles are more for the lifestyle than drive.

I picked up my first convertible as a 2nd car in 2007 cos i've always wanted to own one. Kept my 4-dr saloon, bought a 15 yr old soft top. Cost me around $20k. Drove it around and found that I liked the idea of a convertible. Sold it off in 2008 and got myself another new one in 2010. So you might want to do something like that just in case you don't like it. There are some nice ones lying around SG carmart.

And there is always another time for that SUV. ^_^

i dont quite like the EOS look.

actually we may want to start a family soon. so wifey is against convertible.

is there a difference in driving feel between the XC60 and other SUVs?

Coz when i test drove the XC60 and my colleagues Picnic, i think there is quite a big difference in feeling.

i am not sure if i feel so because of the brand or if it is indeed true

4 seater = 4 seater convertible in this case, sorry i didnt state it any clearer, because i wanted to distinguish between 2 seater convertible which many label it as a roadster.

like i said, people who have one sided comments like bad weather, CO2, hot, traffic jams.. probably because of insufficient experience. i dont blame anyone. nor was my reply offensive or against anyone in particular. just that this kind of thing is sensitive, im already v cautious with my choice of words so as to be tactful :D

one way or another, i consider myself lucky enough to be able to enjoy driving a convertible, thats why i feel to a certain extent, im able to offer the other side of the opinion, even if its not very nice to hear :D

what im trying to say is, because people havent driven a convertible at all or long enough, they duno what kind of enjoyment it is.. thats why to them, it is non-existent or barely there. for people who have, they know how to look for scenic places, nice roads, look forward to good weather etc to enjoy the ride. even when others think of these as a chore, those who know the wind in the hair / face feeling, will not feel the same.

the first time i had my own convertible and dropped its top the first night of collection, my whole body was almost trembling with joy. recently i took over my auntie's spare z4 for a week, i still felt the same [laugh]

Certainly there is nothing wrong with offering the other side of the opinion but I find your remarks over assuming and belittling towards other members here despite your attempts to make your post tactful.

The context here is clearly a matter of preference. If a person simply cannot appreciate the joy of driving topless no matter how many hours you give him driving the car his mentality will not change. Even for a person who knows how to enjoy the feeling of wind blowing down on your face would still weigh the pros and cons of owning such a car. In your case the pros obviously outweighs the cons but you cannot force everyone to conform to your ideology. Similarly you cannot ensure that anyone who ever driven a topless car would certainly enjoy the feeling which is what I am trying to point out in response to your comments.

You are indeed very lucky to have driven a cabriolet at such a young age but I am skeptical about your purpose in mentioning the exclusivity in driving such cars especially in monetary terms. An enthusiast can easily afford a copen or a resale MX-5 at a very affordable price. And the resale MX-5s despite being older still are very nice cars to drive in my opinion. Thus practicality reasons appear to be a more valid argument especially in the Singapore climate where Singaporeans tend to be more pragmatic and not only the rich are able to afford such experience. To add on on, I personally know of someone whose family owns a standard LP640 and F430. Given their wealth they could have easily went for the roadsters instead but they did not. Clearly this wasn't a matter of monetary or practicality concern but an indication of preference and values.

I have no intention to spoil your Friday morning with words that aren't sugar coated. But I see the need to bring my points across as direct as possible because I believe I am not the first who pointed out that some of your posts are somewhat elitist one way or the other. I have to reiterate that I have nothing against your opinions but i simply find your approach in expressing your opinions inappropriate. [wave]

hey, since TS dun have a strong preference for either of these 2, why dun TS ask his wife who, I suppose, will be riding in the car often?

If it's me, i'll go for the SUV, simply becos i can "bully" other cars more than a convertible. haha. [:p]

if u aren't into performance driving, i'd say go for comfort AND safety when u choose ur car.

sometimes i can't understand why some ppl who can afford better cars dun do it n risk the safety of themselves n family by going for a cheaper option.

I'll go for the XC60... More road presence. 200BHP + 300NM is good!

The convertible is not very much diff from the 3series sedan.

Have you considered the Ford Kuga?

Is an awesome fun drive with the same engine as the XC60 (I think)

And for the price of a 320 Cabio, there are a LOT of other cars that would be a heck of a lot more fun to drive.

It feels like you are unneccessarily constraining yourself based on brand, rather than looking at what you really want in each price bracket.

You may even want to consider a Jeep Wrangler.

I dunno but switching from Camry to IS250 seems rather pointless other than the premium badge.

i also realised that there are very very few convertibles that can seat 3 people at the back...due to the centre console that extends all the way to the back.

Whats is the reason for this? RWD?

i see only the 120 convertible can seat 3....

any others?

anyone knows if there are other convertible that can seat 3 behind?

i just had a look at the Wrangler specs.

Its NA..3.8L for less than 200 Bhp!

and fuel consumption of less than 7km/L and it weighs only 1.5 tonne!

not impressive at all

Not too sure about the IS but I think the references are more for the LS and GS. Dun get me wrong, the IS is quite a nice car but in that segment, the C class and 3 series just thumps it. Even the A4 is getting ahead.

The comfort is amazing, and it will be a far more engaging drive than the Camry - but back seat is small. [:(]

Very frankly, given the weather and driving conditions here in Singapore, rather than spending the extra dollars for a cabrio I would much prefer to "convert" them into a bigger, more powerful or more engaging drive.

But that's just my berry humble opinion.

Not the performance (which I agree is horrible)...but you are getting a convertible SUV that with minor modifications can look freaking awesome, and it is a complete Icon.

Which seems to be a factor in the decision making.
