tried to unscrew the compartment to assess the air con filter to take a look. Very difficult for me, even as a guy. unscrew the top one is difficult, although possible. Give up halfway as I am not changing the filter.  Not worth the trouble just to take a look at it. Thinking to open it only when I am replacing the aircon filter myself. The large cost saving is tempting. The aircon filter cannot be delivered by post. Need to self collect at bishan. This put me off again. 

 

 

This car aircon is at such awkward position. It seems to discourage car owner to access it. No wonder, it is expensive.

Anymore cost saving tips? 

It is only a 2-step process:

1) turn both flaps using bare hands and remove the outer panel

2) use a stubby Philips screw driver to unscrew the 4 screws of aircon filter enclosure plate

 

But step (2) is not that easy as you need to be half-kneeling at passenger side and facing up under the glove compartment. It would help to put a mat at the passenger side foot-well to support the body, and soft cloth on the floor to support the knees. But it is actually very easy after you get the hang, meaning you need to sweat the first time to know how to do it. I would not need  more than 15min to do the replacement exercise after my first attempt.

 

But frankly if the AD is to charge only $50, I would gladly let them earn. But $120?! For me, the 15 min work is definitely worth the effort to save the $90, haha.

 

My next servicing is at 60,000k km, meaning need to replace the air filter in engine bay. Most probably I will buy that to do DIY as it is so easy. And ask the counter how much I have saved to feel good, haha.

 

I have posted previously how to order LED lights replacement for whole car from Japan, and how easy to do the work yourself. The LEDs could be ordered from dx.com too, so long as you know what type of connectors are used for existing lights. Could be cheaper.

You shd quickly write in to Mazda and warn them about the mistake they are making by offering more that 2 airbags for the Biante!!! @Soya

You are wrong in claiming that local AD down spec-ed when the car comes with only 2 front airbags. Local Ad DID NOT down spec-ed at all. I let you and those interested to find out, now is 2014 after all. 

 

If you not keen, then so be it. Just don't anyhow claim things that make people laugh at you later.

 

What I want to say is that Japanese people do not make cars of China standard. The fact that the curtain airbag option is not a standard item for this car speak something about its effectiveness. If it is a die die must have else will compromise safety kind of situation, would it be an option? If you interested, go to Japanese Biante website and read all the safety features that come with the car. To dismiss a car just because it comes with 2 airbags wihout finding out more is simply poor judgement.

 

And you ever read that airbags are harmful for young kids? Maybe not, nevermind. In fact, from what I have gathered, young kids should be away from where there are airbags. Airbags are meant for adults as there is great impact when inflated and the young body might not be able to take it resulting in serious injuries! Having airbags at the back in fact is making the rear space dangerous for young kids to be there. What is much much more useful and important is simply to BUCKLE up the seatbelts which I am sure not many parents will tell their kids to do. There will be credibility to the side curtain airbag video if there are statistics that they can help young kids, and not potentially harming them. Protecting adults, yes, maybe. But if seatbelts also no buckle up, then it is anybody guess.

I just installed the wiring for a car DVR after buying the necessary DIY part ($15.95) from Autobacs and watching a few youtube videos.

 

Basically consist of 2 parts:

1) conceal the power cable from top of windscreen to the fuse box at right side of dashboard;

2) select a suitable fuse from fusebox and connect the power cable to it.

 

First part is simple. There are many youtube videos that demonstrate how to do. especially those made by car DVR makers like Blackvue. Just need to push the power cables into the roof and A-pillar and into the fuse box. The rubber seal on the door frame could be easily pulled out and put back. The fusebox can be accessed by prying with a key through the 2 small slots on the fuse box panel and pulling it off. At the back of the panel would be the list of fuses that are used. I choose to use the AUDIO fuse slot as it is sure not to have power when the car engine is turned off. Need to find a supply that is available only when car engine is turned on, else the DVR would drain the car battery when the engine is turned off.

The DIY part that was bought from Autobacs is used to connect the power cable to the fuse slot. The DIY kit come with 3 sets of extension cables to cater for all types of cars. Mazda uses the micro flat type, while most riders uses the mini type. Just swap the correct type that goes to the white fuse holder will do, then replace the fuse in the fuse slot with that from the DIY kit. Then just need to loosen the screw at the side of fuse box to push the ground connector under it before tightening. No soldering involved. The DIY kit act as a diversion to provide a power path to the DVR with its own 5A fuse, while allowing its fuse slot to function as before. The picture can better illustrate the point.

What is left to do would be to put the plug from the power cable into the power socket holder of the DIY kit, push everything back into the fuse box cavity and cover back the panel. That is it.

 

I did mine within an hour at night, trying to figure out as doing the first time. I would need only 10min to conceal the power cable, and another 15min to do the fuse box part now after figuring it all out. Easier than the LEDs replacement.

I just noticed the middle row left seat, there is a zipper that fasten the leather seat and the zipper is open.

 

Anyone have encountered this issue?

 

Since the zipper is open, I also noticed it's just foam underneath the leather. I thought they would have left the original fabric seat cover and just wrap the leather over but it seems like not the case.

Just to add, I cannot find a way to zip back. Not sure how the leather vendor do it

Mazda Biante new facelift model on sale now.

it come with 8 air-bags.

 

Today ST advertised price from $128,888/-

Someone should help to ask if possible to retrospectly install the extra airbags on those rides sold previously. Do not think is a technical issue.

 

If cost only few Ks would consider. Would be like 迟来的春天。

I just got my Biante 2 weeks back. For the past 1 week, i started hearing knocking noise coming from the rear. At first I thought it was from the spare tyre or the things i put in the boot. However, after removing everything and tracing the source of the knocking noise, I realised it was coming from the rear pillar. It sounds like something came loose inside the pillar and its starts knocking when the car starts moving...

 

Anyone else experiencing it? Is it normal?
