Accident along Mandai Road

I was driving down Mandai rd along the crematorium at 11.30pm with my girl when at the last bend towards Thomson road I came face to face with a man, most probably a PRC riding a bicycle towards me. It was a sharp bend and I was only 10m away from hitting him. I swerve to my right, across the other direction road, smashed straight into the kerb and whole car flew down to the grass patch below, missing a tree and 2 fences by mere half a metre only. My both front wheels was banged inwards and the undercarriage in a mess. I quickly jumped out and look for that cyclist but he's gone. A few cyclists came over and ask if I'm alright, as I had my roof opened and luckily didn't fly out! Total damage close to $2K. Funny thing is.... My girl said she didn't see any cyclist or person when I suddenly jammed brake and swerve my car. Hmm.. So please be careful guys nowadays too many cyclists on the road and expect someone to be there at a sharp bend if not you'll get into an accident! Peace!

Many thanks for sharing with us. I am puzzled that you noticed the cyclist only went he was about 10 metres away? You served to avoid the cyclist, but did not encountered served to return back to your own lane?

S$2K sounds ridiculously cheap for the extend of repairs I would reckon is required based on what you've vaguely described.

And the 1st thing you did when you came to a stop was to 'quickly jumped out and look for that cyclist'? [:p]

That's the repair cost itself.. Not counting rims, tyres, Alignment and balancing, labour, spray paint, bodyworks. Just the repair of the damaged parts!! [:(]

It's only two lanes and when at the bend I saw him it's too near already. He's cycling in the middle most probably from another side of the road. Then I swerve alot no time to swerve back as it was a left bend. I swerve right into opposite lane and flew..

Yea that's the price he quote, not total, I should correct.. Just to repair the damaged front wheel part. The rest not included yet. I jumped out of course and turned to find that bugger. Can't find him nowhere. My girl's fine anyway.. ^_^

You sure you saw a actual cyclist?? :o

Yea that's what I saw bro! No joke if not I won't so crazy suddenly swerve for no reason.. Still got the tyre marks at the grass patch and chipped kerb at that bend.. My red paint also scrapped at the kerb lah haha! But my girl said she didn't see anyone. My friend came and told her she probably wasn't aware since passenger seldom aware of surrounding. That cools her abit.

TS, to avoid unnecessary swerving of vehicle along this stretch of road, just hit all cyclists in future.

Be careful guys. Cyclists have become more dangerous than anyone else. I often encounter

1. Cyclists crossing the roads diagonally (like cars taking right turns), that too in between the two turning arcs. When they see a car approaching fast from opposite side, they just cut in front of the car in the same direction.

2. They cross the "signal-less" Pedestrian crossings (those free left turn ones) all of a sudden. I often see them overtaking the cars (especially from blid spot areas) at a high speed and cut in front of the car when the car about to move.

3. They cross all the road from low speed lane to take a right turn

These activities are highly dangerous in the night, that too on the roads with speed limit 70 km/hr.

Defensive driving is the best these days!
