Read in ST the new Mini One comes with a 1.5T engine and 7-speed gearbox but the century sprint is just 10.5s, why did they tune it down? To fit into Cat A?

It is upgrade from previous 1.2L. This is the detuned 1.5L that produces 100hp.

 

In Europe, ppl buy small car with engine less than 1.5L.

 

Mini One fit into that segment.

I am aware, my friend owns the 1.2L Mini One.

 

The last Cooper 1.5L hatch was already capable of doing 136bp and century sprint of below 8s, so a 1.5L TC engine producing 102hp on the Mini One does not make sense to me. Think our Cat A and B regime has a hand in it.

How big is Singapore market to have an influence on Mini Product lineup?

 

Only Mini use that 1.2L block.  It does not make economical sense for BMW to maintain it.

 

On the other hand, 1.5L detuned appears in Mini One/BMW 116/216

Mini One: 101hp

Mini Cooper: 134hp

 

All 3 version comes from the same 1.5L block.

Why mini wan to adopt dct? Better acceleration and fc?

 

At the top tier of sports car market, Porky, Ferrari, Lambo (Huracan only), Bugatti & Mclaren is still using DCT.

 

I don't think these manufacturer will move towards torque converter AT.

Cooper has the turbo. "One first" for sure doesn't need a turbo, "One" maybe a turbo for more things to spoil? hahaha

 

Others can easily achieve 100hp without a turbo. maybe it helps for emission? who knows.

well the honda jazz as a 1.5NA has 129hp and 155nm.

maybe BMW is just lazy to change anything and just dump the same lump in and just have it in different states of tune. but i wonder why bother with 74hp and 160nm. maybe more applicable to europe, to lower emissions to get a better tax bracket.  maybe turbo @0.3bar enough liao..

Actually, it will be interesting for Mini to have the same engine as i8 (without electric motor).
