I prefer a raw driving feel, but I'll take superlative power/torque:weight.

 

When I tested a Lotus Elise 1.6SC (supercharged) manual just before a BMW M3 coupe, I was underwhelmed by the latter. The Lotus was down on power, but it more than made up for it with a phenomenally raw driver's experience.

 

But the GTR has enough kick in the crotch power to satisfy even me, I think.

Lol, nope, the s15 is an absolute babe magnet ~!

Buy one, you will find out.

 

The s15, is a true beau, but with its COE nearing, PQP constantly rising and all the surround sound rattling and noise that was appearing in all places, I had to get a new ride. It was a tough decision, as there was huge sentimental value afterall the mods and girls picked up in 8 yrs.

 

The GTR was also in my shopping list, as with the 2 variant of the Porker.

But at the end of the day, I am happy with my choice.

 

Here's why I didnt buy the GTR.

1. The brand .. ack I am swallow nah just enough of jap cars.

2. The styling does not appeal to me, i like the slick and flat look etc s15, rx7 instead of the boxy looking etc evo

3. Sitting position, as with boxy cars, your sitting position becomes much higher.

4. I dont want to again spend days and weeks and months in Workshop for mods and repairs.

5. The very high maintenance required just to drive around in SG .... Zzzzz

6. Interior trimmings, speakers and headunit

7. Very high insurance loading on the car, costly roadtax too.

 

These are purely my experience and opinion.

I am in no way slamming the GTR, infact I am in awe of the engineering in this beast

 

believe me,the S15 was one of my shortlist when i was looking for a change 5yrs back. as for me, i shun european makes becaz of their higher maintenance cost (one oil change can cost 200-500bucks) and i feel their vehicles are not acclimatised to hot tropical climate...many parts breakdown faster than jap counterparts. (heard of issues with stuff breaking down after the 3 yr point, and its not cheap). another point i hate to conform to trends, so no iphones for me and i'm happy with my r34

so u are willing to give up on some creature comforts for the raw power feeling like a lotus?? it may blow ur mind when u test drive it, but driving it everyday may be a different tune altogether.

The biggest concern with a Lotus is that my fat a** won't be able to fit in it. I had to lose a lot of weight before I was able to sit in an Elise. Now I've put it all back. Luckily my Porker can still take me, it lives up to its name.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the look of the R35 GTR too but I'm really impressed with what it's capable of considering its price. FD and S15 are definitely more of a babe magnet when done up properly and not to mention popo too.

have you considered a noble? i am pretty that the ariel atom will be raw enough for you but you will hate to make it an everyday car.

GTR is one of the cheapest in terms of price:performance.

 

Its good car but its somewhat on the heavy side. IMHO, cars with best price/performance ratio would be EVO/WRX...lol.....

However, as someone has posted. You cannot do hard launching frequently or your gearbox will uplorry very fast.....

the first forum i landed in basically just blabbed on and on, bashing rather than telling me what caused the gearbox failure. the link in the first post however did stated the reason. Hard launch with traction control turned off. Well, i am not so sure how many times that fella LC his but i thought he should have seen it coming.

 

How could anyone simply buy the words of the dealership when they told him he could LC it anytime he liked it? seriously.

I am with you about the GT-R. Its typical Japanese. Styling tends to be hit and miss. In my view, a sport car should be feminine, not masculine, unless its a muscle car. Another bitter pill is the maintenance cost, which is not much difference from say a Porsche Turbo.

 

A lot of people are attracted by its pricing, but got shell shock in its maintenance cost & sold them off quickly, or put very little miles with it.

 

It is for sure a bargain price for super car, but you have to be able to afford super car maintenance to upkeep it.

 

 

But these factors probably a good thing, if not, I may have no choice but to sell my kidney to get one.

 

Also, when you live in a 100% urban city like Singapore, you need to ask the point of such a powerful car. If you wanted a fun car to zip around our urban roads, I feel you can get 90% of the fun of a GT-R with a Golf GTi or Cooper S ( & more nimble), or an evo , at a faction of the cost. If there is wide, clear open roads, or you are a trackie (which unfortunately, seems to be restricted to one or 2, if you include pasir gudang), then its another story.

 

But having said that, I am still having a look out for it. Its not my first choice 'fun' car, but it came close to the top few choices. My first choice is a Cayman S for info, but its something in the near future not now. At the moment, I need tol think more about getting my B&B car first.
