20 years of experience in the Oil and Gas field vs 5 years, if I am unknown quantity then I do not know what is known. Hahahahha. Ex-Saipem staff, may be you might want to head on down to Sembawang and have a looky looky.......anyways, no ill feelings bro, only thing, Singaporeans are being, have been and being screwed BIG time and nobody gives a damn.

totally agree with you, my company having same situation that ahneh head tend to recruite ahneh staff, all local resume somehow "not suitable" even without interview, push them through for interview will also end up with "not suitable".  Sad but true.  HR can only advise but usually won't overwrite the hiring manager decision.  But it is also true that most local especially those in O&G industry during good old day asking way higher than other nationality.

Maybe your case you are asking 5k and the S pass looking for 3k, Even you are better in term of experience and ability, but to some, the 2k saving is good enough to get the second rated employee. Maybe the one who "reconment" will even say you are not as good as the S pass holder and asking for higher resulted you not getting the job.

My 2 cents

I find it strange just how some make purchases.

I wondered if they are buying the car, the sales person or the company.

For me, when I buy a car I go to great length that the car Iam buying really is what I am looking for and tthe process is simple and trouble free.

I have seen how people buy rolls Royce or Bentley. They go in make their personal choice and pay then leave.

Small talks distracts what you go for in the first place.

For those who got turn off by salesman at T and decide somewhere else, in most cases is yours and salesman lost and not the company. Most bread and butter T cars are on par or better than those smaller brands in terms of reliability.

Priority.

Agree somewhat.

However, no buyer likes to be neglected or push around by haughty sales people.

Whether they like it or not, sales people represent the company. Just like employees represent the company.

Even wearing a company T-shirt and behaving badly, people will pass judgement on your company.

And a T car is nothing special. There are plenty of other choices around. Cheaper and arguably "better".

When you choose a brand to buy based on reputation, even if that product doesn't need human interaction; if that brand becomes more expensive just bcuz; then buyers may choose another brand.

That's competition.

I always go to the Sin Ming outlet for car servicing ... hopefully I can still see the familiar faces when I go back next year ....

Hope the staff affected will get the necessary benefits and able to find jobs soon

ST report added the restructuring will also involve moving finance and IT functions out of Singapore. Thus the retrench staff are more likely to come from these 2 departments. Probably move to low cost centres in India etc

Very common with globalization nowaday. Even SG benefits from such restructuring exercise in foreign country such as Europe n US when the coy there relocate their finance dept to SG aka new marina south business district.

Such yaya behaviour occurs not only in the car or property industry. Im sure everyone has gotten such 'take it or leave' it attitude from bosses or even employees of popular eateries. Your choice whether u really need to have that plate of char kway tiao or can settle on similar fare from another stall. Edited by Sotong1977

My experience with BM 5 years ago:

T showroom: The salespeople can see through me and my wife like we were made of glass, go next door to L showroom: One nice salesman quickly welcomed us and served us well.

Both also under BM,

Super hard truth!

I encountered few sometime this year even after i proved myself to be a genuine buyer

This few very openly told me to come back with a cheque if i need their services!

But at the same time i also met very some who's very hardworking and non pushy trying their best to help me shortlist a property within their company group managed properties

So, what did you learn?

You have a choice who you give your money to.

can somebody tell the CE that since he is Chief Executive..

he shld also fire himself since the company didnt do well?

Not sure how far they take it.

When I was working in this MNC, HR have this belief that in every company there is 5% of non-performers.

It's guaranteed. You must find them or make them.

If I have 10 engineers reporting to me, I must find that 1 engineer that is guaranteed bad performer and brand him as such.

It is not possible to have all good 10 engineers. That is the belief.

Sorry, if they are all good, you must pick a sacrificial lamb.

And that sacrificial lamb is either denied pay rise or given the sack.

So it's best to hire one extra hand, anyone will do, to be sacrificied, if you want to keep the rest.

Had a short stint in an Americunt MNC.

Same same...

Just when many thought they will have a lot of freedom inside Americunt companies, it's just the opposite!

A lot of restrictions like no personal/family photo on work desk (not that I like to put), no using of mobile when walking, no web access to emails after office hours (was a culture shock to me when I joined coming from another EU MNC where it is expected. But eventually get used it  [laugh] ) ......

Even water dispenser refilling also got process in place one. :D

Everything, even damn small kacang also need to draw flowcharts and map process like pantry's water refill. :XD:

Many checklists, almost for everything....

yeap.

These fat cats are hired to wield the axe. It never falls on them. This has been the case for retrenchments at other large companies in the past.

Part of their pay packet is to compensate them for having to do nasty jobs like this. Imagine how he feels (and also the family members), every day log on to internet, social media, got people scolding and cursing them several generations left-right-centre [laugh]

Not many people know this about american companies, thinking that they are very liberal etc. It may be true for those modern and forward-looking tech firms. But those large traditional US MNCs with well-known names still have a lot of hide-bound beliefs and management practices that were last in vogue in the 90s!

Another thing I notice is that these companies tend to hire many india nationals?? Maybe because their interviewing process favours talking/presentation [laugh]
