Brake "groaning" sound after driving through a mini flood

Dear brothers and sisters of MCF,

This morning I experienced "groaning" sound coming from the front when I was braking from speed ranging from 30-50km/h. I didn't drive my car after last Sunday when I drove through a mini flood till today morning. My steering doesn't feel any jerk while braking but the sound sounds pretty scary, I haven't tried high speed braking yet though.

So I was hoping to hear some advice from you guys.

Should I go to a workshop to do a check?

If yes, do you have any reliable and recommended workshop to do a quick check? (preferably not too far from the east)

Thank you so much in advance!

Regards,

Tsr729

Water may have entered the system. KEep braking, but if braking efficiency does not improve, get it bled at a workshop

Thanks! I've tried pumping the brakes intermittently already. My another guess is the brake pads something wrong already. Low speed braking efficiency is not compromised, I dare not try high speed yet

Used for around 30K km

i would reckon, you have abt 3mm left of working space. Just do a service or get ti checked.,

Metallic Scraping or Grinding Noise When Braking

Brakes sometimes make groaning or creaking noises when the pads are damp, and some types of brake pads (particularly semi-metallic pads) may squeal or squeak when they are cold. But as a rule, the brakes should be relatively quiet when they are applied. If you hear metallic scraping or grinding noises when braking, it probably means your brake pads are worn out and your vehicle needs a brake job now. Don't delay because worn brakes may not be able to stop you vehicle in a safe distance. In fact, if the brakes are that badly worn, there is a risk the friction material that's left on the pads may separate from the backing plate, possibly causing the brakes to fail. Metal-to-metal contact is also very damaging to the rotors

Yea normally my pads will squeak when I brake lightly in the morning, today morning don't have leh. But I think it is also time for me to change the pads. Thanks for the info!

Same groaning sound if some debris get onto the brake pad(s) and started rubbing against the rotor. May not be serious, but brake pad(s) can wear out much faster. Sometimes the rotor as well. Good to have your Mechanic check on it.

Normal lah. Your brake disc/rotor surfaces are rusty cos they got contact with water and you have not been driving. Take your car out for a spin and do some hard braking. Make sure nobody tailgates you. :D

I share the same opinion.

When washing my car [and splashing water into the tyres/wheels] in MSCP washbay, the front brake disks and rear rotors would be wet. When left in the parking lot, a thin layer of rust would form over a period of time. The next time [after a day / several hrs] when starting to drive my car off, there would be a bit of "jam" felt in the rear rotor followed by a "pod" sound due to the brake shoe "breaking free from the jam". During braking down the ramp, there would be some scratching sounds due to the rust on the disks/rotors. The sounds would have disappear by the time I reach the main road.

If the sounds still appear everytime you drive, then you should seek your workshop advise.
