Lethalstrike Turbocharged July 9, 2012 Share July 9, 2012 Latest toy Seiko vintage 1976 Chrono http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/440/seikowhite6139.jpg/ Which model is yours? My favourite is the 6138 also known as "Panda", but it is highly doubtful that i could get one in SG.
Throttle2 Supersonic July 9, 2012 Share July 9, 2012 the 6138 Panda is a follow up to the 6139. A very sought after vintage, the Panda. not easy to find locally but if you really like, drop me a deposit and i will procure one for you. Mine is a 6139, first Chronograph in the world and use on the moon. Willing to sell $350nett with box, heh heh

Both the 6138 and 6139 had so many dial plus case variations that i don't know which is which at first glance. I had some friends who are relatively familiar with vintage Seikos and that's how i get to know the Panda. Appreciate your kind offer though. The peculiar thing about the 6138 is that a lot had actually recommended to keep the chronograph function running as its got something to do with the design of the movement. The opposite is usually true as chronos tend to wear out faster if they are kept running. Haha, i guess that's why they say a vintage watch has more "character". Haha, i guess that's why they say a vintage watch has more "character". thanks. yup becos it has a clutch system which at free position runs the chrono hands. stopping the hands would mean like pulling your handbrake while is Drive gear engaged. many people dont know but Seiko 6139 was there when NASA went to the moon. so was the Rolex GMT. only thing is that Omega was the chosen one by NASA although not be the astronauts themselves. Throttle2 Supersonic July 9, 2012 Share July 9, 2012 (edited) does this watch have exhibition caseback? nope, Seiko vintage chronos have no ex-back case. well, at least i have never seen one ...... Edited July 9, 2012 by Throttle2

Throttle2 Supersonic July 9, 2012 Share July 9, 2012 (edited) I see. does it hack? can it be manually wound? yes and no. yes becos when you pull the crown out everything stops as long as you dont on the chrono no if the chrono hand which also acts as second hand is turned on, pulling out the crown doesnt stop it. asper my knowledge, for this model, cannot be handwound. for other models of the same caliber 6139, i think its possible. but the movement is excellent and robust giving approx 36hrs power reserve. to start watch running, one shake is enough. for caliber 6138 which is the previous seiko chrono i featured, it can be hand wound.
