Jamessoh Neutral Newbie December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 Is it legal for cyclist to cycle across traffic lights? Sometime ago, I remember reading a column on the papers saying that it is against the law. Because sometimes when cyclist cycle across traffic lights at green man or at the zebra crossing, the cars have to calculate the time taken to slow down according to their speed. This is different from slowing down because of pedestrians. It can be dangerous when the cyclist is going at a fast speed. anyone can comment? ↡ Advertisement

BSBGARAGE Neutral Newbie December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 some traffic lights already have a cyclist-crossing lane if i'm not wrong, then again they don't really care about the boundaries
Watwheels Supersonic December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 I have nothing much to say if there's no enforcement. Did the cyclist slow down to observe any oncoming traffic before proceeding or did the cyclist bo chap and cycle w/o due consideration?
Bigbadguy 1st Gear December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 Well its illegal. Its called Pedestrian Crossing "A pedestrian is a person traveling on foot, whether walking or running" and not called Cyclist Crossing. But who's enforcing it?
Nzy Twincharged December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 Its illegal. I am ok with those who slow down and look out for traffic before cycling across. Only hate those who suddenly dash out of no where.
Cklasse 1st Gear December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 Bicycle should ride on road and obey traffic rules like motorcycle. I cycle every weekend for exercise but I do it on PCN or pavement. However, I will not ring for pedestrian to give way because pedestrian has the right of way on pavement. I will only cross traffic junction when it's green man. SimonTan 2nd Gear December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 what law is Bicycle under? I still dont get it. How can it be illegal or legal to ride a bicycle on the public road. Is there really a bicycle law to goven cyclists?
Seaweed 1st Gear December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 when the lights are in favour of the motorist...they belongs to the road...when the lights are in favour of the pedestrain...they become part of the pedestrain...i have seen cyclist in group(professional or just look good type...I have no idea) doing the same thing as well... when u knock them down...u pity them...and still karna summon....we are only interested in drunk driving (because the summon bigger sum)?? Seaweed 1st Gear December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 same here...i do it on PCN...and if no PCN...when on path...i always give way to their rightful user...and I follow the green man when crossing...only bad thing is I still cycle across and not push the bike across which I should have done so...but then i think there is no issue with cycling across if I do what I need to do...Like stop and look...wait for vehicle to stop before proceeding etc... Achtung7 Neutral Newbie December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 I think it is ok to cycle across pedestrian x-ing when the lights are in your favor and you do not interfere with the pedestrians. It's their right and they "own" the pavement and the x-ing. For zebra crossing, it's risky as the drive may not be able to react in time if u cycle across. In fact, I do not expect a car to give way to a cyclist at the zebra x-ing unless the cyclist is pushing the bike.
Achtung7 Neutral Newbie December 27, 2011 Share December 27, 2011 Cycling on PCNs and ECP bike path has its problem as well... some people choose to walk on the bike path at ECP and take up the entire lane... some inline skaters zigzag across the whole lane with earphones... some kids weaving left and right and are totally unpredictable...
