Pocus Turbocharged June 20, 2012 Share June 20, 2012 Hi folks, Anyone here have a private pilot's license? I remember there used to be a youth flying club but dunno much. Read up and happen to find that the Seletar Flying Club offers flying lessons to get a license. I was actually interested in learning but the price is pretty steep, the membership alone is $1K with $100+ every month. Calculated based on the flying rate stated, prepare to spend around 20K before you get your license. :( Can I still fly if I wear glasses? I know Airforce/Airline is a no no but private plane more relaxed right? I know MCF got many rich folks out there... anyone got license? How about plane ownership/maintenance? Get gian to take up, but the one $$$$$ ↡ Advertisement
Davidklt Supercharged June 20, 2012 Share June 20, 2012 (edited) I intend to take mine soon. Recently, the papers ran an article about similar courses across the causeway. The course there is about RM 25,000 in all. Local ones, you are right. Be prepared to spend about $20k to get yr license. For the glasses part, best to just give them a call. I can't advise as I am not wearing any glasses so with or without any criteria, it doesn't affect me. Kangadrool Supersonic June 20, 2012 Share June 20, 2012 (edited) If possible go to Johor to get your PPL. Local PPL can fly locally only (which means take off from Selatar and circle round Singapore and land at Selatar) though you can always bridge to full PPL to fly cross country. But, troublesome lah. Must well get it straight with a full PPL. Fees at Johour of course cheaper taking into consideration of exchange rate. Amount is roughly the same, but one in RM and here is in SGD. You need to chalk up certain flying hours annually in order to keep your PPL unlike driving licence. Edited June 20, 2012 by Kangadrool

Sosaria Twincharged June 20, 2012 Share June 20, 2012 I go to work every day is already like "circle round singapore" and don't need PPL; I know the feeling Jokes aside, I've heard that some skills (or tests?) like cross-country nav can only be done up North (or elsewhere not here), is it true? Might as well do PPL there?
Davidklt Supercharged June 20, 2012 Share June 20, 2012 (edited) Once you flew, every time a plane flies by,you wish you are up there. This is the beauty of flight. Edited June 20, 2012 by Davidtkl

Kangadrool Supersonic June 20, 2012 Share June 20, 2012 don't think a PPL can easily gain access to commerical airline as trainee pilot. PPL is for fun only. Fly during day time using line of sight. You need to upgrade to instrument rating PPL in order to fly by instrument and at night. If $$$ is not a problem, can always go to Aussie for full time commercial pilot training. After that, you can fly your own plane.
