SimonTan 2nd Gear June 25, 2012 Share June 25, 2012 Maybe now the digital cameras are more sharp and will not be fooled by the pixelated uniform. Perhaps now the digital camera image sensors use hexagon and super duper high retina technology. I remember the argument for the pixelated uniform is because sertalite and surveillance cam will not easily discern the pixels uniforms, as the pixels will confuse and blend in with the Cam image sensors. ↡ Advertisement
Krieger 5th Gear June 25, 2012 Share June 25, 2012 agree, the new number four is so hard to spot. was driving along a road along upper thomson area, when i stop near a bus stop, did not see anyone until an army boy moves to stop a bus.. seriously its not easy to spot in the new uniform.. hmm how come they say it fails? You are wrong. Many replies here are also wrong. FYI. It is not "Tiger Skin" but "Tiger stripes" camo patterns first used by Vietnam special forces (LLDB). US LRRP teams caught on with the trend seeing how well the camo prints works. Pixelated uniforms actually does work to some extend. The patterns create a slight confusion to the eye to make the wearer more difficult to spot. The only reason the US Army Combat Uniform failed is because it tried to use one uniform for both desert and woodland environment. It is neither here nor there. Notice how the US Marines and SAF resisted that move. For them, it works well. The US ACU is designed entirely by enlisted men. I guess US Army PEO would not give them that chance again. I attach a pic here. Look how well the SAF pixelated uniform blends into local environment.
Mustank Hypersonic June 25, 2012 Share June 25, 2012 (edited) our camo pattern is also qualified for night use ... it is extremely difficult for someone who uses a thermal imager to try to pick out the pixelated uniform, as long as the soldier wearing it don't anyhow move ... like this? Royho1979 Clutched June 25, 2012 Share June 25, 2012 Obviously , you have not heard of global or local tropics. And they need not even be in Singapore. Piangz.. can read before you reply or not? 5936 1st Gear June 25, 2012 Share June 25, 2012 If they eventually end up at army surplus stores or factory outlets, Beachroads, I will get the pants. Looks good, and more importantly, for the workmanship and materials. Several years ago, saw at Texas, Army surplas store. It was about US$100+ for the pants alone. Those MIC or MIT copies, stand far far away.

Oh cmon, if you wanna put yourself on an intellectual pedestal, have the decency to explain. You have obviously misunderstood the context of local environment. Pray tell how "local tropics" and "global tropics" have any relevance to camouflage in local Singapore environment. Military literature? Oh I happen to read extensively and military literature is one of my favored topics. By the way what field of military literature are you talking about? Military strategy? Shall we discuss the book of 5 rings or Sun Tzu? Military Science? Shall we start on Pyro-technics? Shall we start with peroxide based explosives or nitrates/ammonia based? Small arms technologies? What are your thoughts on bull-pup shotguns developments such as the Neostead 2000 as the future urban operation weaponry? Which armour piercing small arms ammunition is better do you think should replace the 9mm? FN Herstal 5.7mm or HK's 4.6mm? I would love to learn a thing or 2 from you if you have anything to offer. 5936 1st Gear June 25, 2012 Share June 25, 2012 Haha, not very wise. Fireman wants to be seen by victims, and be seen when they are in distress. And not blend with the flame. But I have spoken to some 'senior people frm their Home office', that the camo is to create cross dept identity beyond Army, police and rescue svc. Our MHA only confined 'Man in Blue' colour uniforms within Home Team Depts.

Pls explain why? To hide between flames? To look "cool" even when fighting a burning hot fire! Seriously, when the firemen are doing actual fire-fighting, they won't be wearing just those camos. They have to wear the fire-retardant jackets and pants anyway. ↡ Advertisement
