Desmond was ex Chief of Defence Force, not just ex Chief of Army.

 

Anyway, Army operations is effectively about moving masses and logistics, and there are many relevant skills to be gained when in Service.

 

Take for example the boxing day tsunami, our SAF mounted Ops Flying Eagle and dispatched 3 Landing Ship Tanks filled with aid and supplies. We were the first to arrive to help, only to find nowhere to land. Our forces then deployed our Combat Engineers to do a makeshift dock to roll on our aids and NGOs.

 

All these done to the precision of our NDPs.

 

When Katrina struck, our airboys were the first to arrive and land to help.

 

Give ourselves and our Armed Forces credit. Experience in planning, mobilising and operating under real threatening conditions, whilst moving masses and logistics, count for something.
