According to the CHS memo which was forwarded to TR Emeritus (TRE) by a parent, the event is organized by CHS Management Committee, CHS Alumni and the Parent Support Group (PSG).

 

Yeah, I saw that. Organized by Management Committee doesn't mean the gift appeal must have came from them too. There's still room for them to wriggle

Firstly, parents are free to decide if they want to sponsor. If you don't want to, then don't bother !

2nd, Gifts are pooled, so you don't know who is gonna get your gift.

3rdly, if you are a teacher, would you be bothered to find out who sponsored the gift you won at a lucky draw ? Even the NUS affair involves more than just $$$

 

This is coming from a parent who have 2 kids at CHS. I've never sponsored any present and I have never felt any pressure to sponsor. Its no big deal ! Do my kids get special treatment (or a lack of it) ?? Well, yes, especially being the parent of one "special" student who is don't pay attention in class and is often late in handing in homework, I always get complain calls from the teachers

You already mentioned... civil servants may not solicit gifts. The problem here is, none of the teachers did that. It is the SCHOOL that is soliciting. So technically cpib cannot jail the school [laugh]

The driving force behind is the Parent Support Group, and the intention is to appreciate the hardwork put in by the Teachers. What has it got to do "any actual or potential conflict of interest" what-so-ever ??

 

If there are parents who are so kiasu as to think that they are forced to sponsor so that they won't be blacklisted, then who do they have to blame ??
