Can save fuel or no difference ?

Ok, here's what i experiment a couple of months ago. Driving a manual picanto, so your ride might differ.

From 14km/l to 18km/l over 2 months. Average can clock 500km before light up, refill ~27L

Car Setup

- remove unnecessary stuff from the boot

- pump the tyres regularly ~2weekly

- the usual regular maintenace (EO,oil filter, spark plug)

- if weather is cooling, off aircon, wind down abit (average 50% off)

Driving Method:

1)neighbourhood area:

- Shift up gear fast, try not to drag to 3krpm, i shift when below 2.5 krpm

- stick to 50-60km/h (yes, i do not hog lane 1)

- maintain 2-3 car length so you can see the traffic ahead and adjust the pressure on the gas pedal

- if you see red lights ahead, release pedal and let it roll whenever you can depending on traffic

2)highway area:

- stick to 70-80km/h (yes again, i do not hog lane 1, maybe lane 2 as well depending on traffic)

- sometimes i just use lane 3, 2-3 car length

- traffic jam ahead, let it roll whenever u can

Basically, the idea is to maintain consistent feather light pressure on the gas pedal. You will need patience for such driving style.

Playing some light smoothing music do help in someway. Lastly, I would like to emphasize, do not road hog and adjust according to the traffic flow.

And yes, I am back to 14km/l mode, cheers [wave]

what ever fuel you save will be spend on that cold drink cause you drive too long in a hot car.... Also bad mood is worth more than that few cents. Also for fuel economy, if you like to chiong, why drive so slow to save petrol and feel bad about it..then blow thousands on other entertainment to lift ur mood. Also when its hot, tend to speed more so can feel more wind LOL....

the correct question should be, will it make my car more powerful!!!!

If you hook up a OBDII sensor, you can track your fuel usage (some cars also have that, like my altis, the current fuel L/km or km/L)..and you will notice your foot is the biggest contributor. what ever savings from other things is nothing compared to your foot.

According to my readings, while foot off the accelerator, the fuel flow is around 15 cc/min, but when normal accelerating its shoots up to 150cc/min and with pedal to the metal over 300cc/min.

Just like switching off lights at home but always on aircon.

Guys,

Please enjoy your ride, don't because of a few km off this off that.

whats the point, really. think about it.

petrol is expensive then go jb and pump, if no time then pump 92 in Singapore.

if both cannot then i don't know how you can feed a car.

Can be quite bumpy if driven above the speed limits. Can be promoting tire slippages under certain conditions (defeat the purpose).

Not really, depends on the car's suspension,i pumped 280 for all my cars,it worked fine.

Best is to drive with aircon off.

Get a powerful USB fan. powered by a battery pack which you charged with office's electricity.

P.S, I don't do that coz most of the time 2 kids in my car. lol

its better to buy a more fuel efficient car.. aka new tech to save on petrol..

I estimate I will save about $14,000 over a period of 10 years. [cool]

I mostly off aircon when driving alone. Not to save fuel or for more power, but simply I can't stand the cold air.
