Next year dorter's school going single session -

Is your school single session? What time does it start?

(and what time do you think it should start)

What time do the kids normally finish by the time all ECA, CCA, TCSS etc etc finish?

normal school time start at 720am and end at 1pm before CCA.

That's what I was told, but I don't want to believe it.

Are you very sure this is for single session school?

What's the point in single session if still start so darn freaking EARLY!

Lots of things - for a start, must wake up early to reach school on time. Wake up early, must go to bed early - how to spend any time with daddy?

For teenagers also they are "biologically programmed" to wake up later - a start time of 8:30 or later has significant impacts on better performance.

See here: http://www.sleepfoundation.org/article/sle...-time-and-sleep

Note - yeah, primary school kids haven't quite reached adolence yet, I will see if there is another cite for younger kids.

Mines starting later this month - kid will be going from afternoon session to morning session. at the moment I am quite scared, as two nights a week she has classes that finish too late to make it practical to wake up so early. I will have to start looking into how to change them to a friendlier timing.

I wish school can start later, but it's just not practical because of my (or my wife's) working hours.

If indeed school starts later, i'll still have to bring my kids to school early so that i can reach office on time.

studies can tell you all the benefits for going to bed early and waking up early.

Both my kids have been through this bio clock that they go to bed latest by 11pm, earlier for the Pri school, exam or no exam.

wake up at 6-615am without alarm or dragging, one touch on the lap and they will take less than 5min to go prepare.

by the way, Pri school kids are not teenagers yet :D

for the sake of bus operators as well. after sending kids to school, they can continue their business for working adults.

How old are your children?

How far away from your house is their school?

That is provided the school opens early for you.

I just hope that the morning jams will not worsen as a result of school starting late.

A lot of times it has been talked about that one of the reasons to have schools start so early is to allow parents to drop kids to school before work.

I don't like this reason, find it a bit silly and counter-productive.

To my way of thinking, I'd much rather choose a school that a kid can get to alone, let them walk / cycle / take a straight bus and then have school start at about 9am.

If you (generic you) want a school so far away that must drive the kid - too bad, your own foolish decision.

From P2 onwards a kid is more than capable of getting to a school that is in their neighbourhood.

My gals Pri Sch starts 735am and ends 120pm. As its far from my place, we have to leave by 630am to avoid jam....but they also sleep early, by 930pm...now they are in Sec...worst cos the starting time is to be in sch by 715am...if not will get demerit points...

Whether foolish or not it's just a matter of personal belief.

Parents would always want the best for their child - but what is best is subjective. Some like yourself believe in having primary school close-by, but some would choose schools base on their culture, brand name etc. To each his own, but i would say that if your child needs more sleep, perhaps just need try to make him/her sleep earlier. That was how i was brought up in pri and sec sch...sleep by 9pm, wake up at 6am.

Not much other choice. Assuming school wants to start at 7:XX I will just have to change her evening classes, and chase her to bed earlier.

(at the moment swimming and chinese both finish at 9:00)

Lesser help from daddy for homework, but what to do?
