Now u pointed it out, I have been wondering why surfing net on my phone soooooooo damn slow recently.... only time it's fast is morning time, ..... [furious]

I have problems too from home... mobile voice call drops as well regardless. Mobile data is crap.

 

KPKB till I got a callzone device to boost the signal but must connect to my current internet setup + monthly mobile rebate.

But with that speed I still can watch YouTube video quite smooth leh. Its 3G consider not bad already.

 

iirc, on paper 3g suppose to be 6mpbs... lol

well bottleneck here and there...

I think also depends on where you are. My 3G at home always hit around 10-13mpbs. In office I never go above 5mbps before.

Second that. My LTE managed to get downlink 57Mbps, uplink 21Mbps

 

Currently 4G penetration is way below that of HSDPA or 3G. Wait till penetration rates are more or less mature then do the test again for a fair comparison.

U r absolutely right, since moved to new office at clark quay, i cant use my mobile broadband connection at all. Totally useless. [mad]

 

Me too. I'm at Robinson Rd no less.

 

No 3G at all in my building. No 3G logo on my iPhone. Colleagues on Singtel have 3G... Envious.

 

And my building is <2 years old...

M1 not any better. My 3G network just shut off by itself and switch to 2G.

Download things halfway got cut off.. very frustrating.

Could it be...

4G and 3G both also sharing the same Internet bandwidth at the backend.

Since 4G phones are with faster processor, they have used up most of the internet bandwidth. Leaving none for the 3G handsets.

When you have the current 3G "penetration" on LTE, Singtel already have next generation LTE.

The point i am making is not to compare the bandwidth offered by 3G with that of LTE. That is totally unnecessary because paper specs would already tell you half the story.

 

The point i am putting across is to compare how close the two data modulation standards come to achieving their promised throughputs

 

E.g. for a promised bandwidth of 6Mbps, how much is 3G able to deliver now?

 

I define therefore a performance index = real world bandwidth/promised bandwidth. this index value can then be used to compare various data modulation standards without bias.

 

Obviously, vast differences in the 3G vs 4G subscriber base will skew the results unfairly.

 

And btw, research efforts ongoing are focused in improving the pre-existing data modulating algorithms rather than coming up with new ones. you think telcos worldwide will be happy to keep installing new base stations with new networking equipment in the backend just so to support a new data modulation standard? All these no need money ah?

 

The main reason that a user incur bad bandwidth is because much of the "bandwidth" is taken up by the transmission of dropped packets. Between the base station and the cellphone, dropped packets means that checksums for data integrity cannot be fulfilled and you have to keep blasting the dropped packets which the other party did not receive.

 

So now, if you can come up with a new algorithm that can allow the receiving party to work out the missing/dropped data packet without having to wait for the sending party, your usable bandwidth will be freed up.

before the LTE handsets and the backend equipment supporting LTE went live, the bandwidth is already appalling to speak of.

 

I am not sure whether they did expand the bandwidth at the backend prior to bringing LTE into the pipeline so you could be right, data packets from LTE devices could be travelling on the same backend which has not been upgraded in bandwidth, effectively worsening congestion.
