What does a army general know about education?

Personally i think its TCJ, HSK or CCS.

Ng CM if he was really a potential PM, he would have been taken out of the army while he was at 1-2 star level to quickly gain ministerial experience in the various offices. ie TCJ and CCS who were earmarked early and removed. George Yeo, TCH and other ex-SAF personnel are also similar.

Essentially, if u make it to CDF (ie desmond kuek), it means that the govt likes u, but does not like u a lot lol  [laugh]

Eh, who knows what happened behind the scene? Maybe PM Lee did ask him whether he want to join politics in year 2011 GE as he got good potential , he keep say don't want. So he rejected, then along the way, PM lee finally managed to pursue him to join politics 5 years later in GE2015. ( This is just what could have occurred )

I think Ng Chee Meng still stood quite high chance to become a PM, even though he just joined politics about 1 year plus ago only.

Placing an army general in the domain meant for scholars will never be the most harmonious arrangement.

But the army general is also a president scholar..

"Scholar" in this context refers to academia.

Not referring to anyone who did well in A-level and had a future well-paved thereafter.

it is quite fun but seems true. just imagine this is a corporate office. a team of executive work so hard to prove themselves. then only a few listed here will ever be considered for the pm post.

why then work so hard if you will never be considered? happy to be just in the game or accept the fact that you will only there to make that number?

in politics, it should be the best man wins. not just within but what the people thinks.

Not really. The xiu cai also refers to someone who did well in the imperial examinations.

It's also someone who excelled in an exam and not a true original researcher or thinker.

In fact.

Other than George yeo, none of the so called scholars can even pen a proper article let alone articulate thought.

Not so jiak lat lah. The scholar system is flawed but you can only play the game you are in and these people played the game as it should be played and won and should be congratulated.

every year many scholars are produced but these are ultimately the ones that made the final cut. There's still some sifting and chaffing- not say everyone 18 become scholar 48 sure become minister

What are you talking about?

Aren't our army generals chosen from "scholars" in the first place?

Referring to academia domain.

Minister of Education should be a Professor.

Any prof would be more qualified than an army general for the post.

going by your train of thoughts the minister of defence should be a general and minster of health should be a doc?

logic not wrong. but it's kinda stifling, don't you think?

you don't need to know the minute details of every operations of a company to be the COO or CEO.

by the same token you don't need to know everything about the education system to be the minister of education. you just need a trained mind to ask the right questions and set the course for the ship. the rest of the team e.g the perm sex can handle the rest.
