my exchange rate in Patong town was : S$1 to THB$26

With the protest in Thailand now, the exchange rate you've gotten is good. [thumbsup]

Anyway how much did you pay for the car? Where did you rent it from? I am thinking of renting a Honda City instead since I am pretty tall at 1.8m with longer legs and 3 large luggages and 2 family members.

Exchange rate in Phuket town area is better.

Car from Hertz. Slightly more expensive than the local outfits but i figured it was a safer and more reliable choice. Can make reservations online. About SGD$50 a day including insurance. Local rental co. are approx $40 a day for similar car. If u take 2-3 taxi trips a day, it's more than enough to cover car rentals. Phuket taxi fare is chop chop.

Just back from Phuket. It was FANTASTIC. Food was great, weather was great and ppl are nice. Driving a car around was easy enough (with a 300baht unlimited data sim-card bought at the airport). Driving a car also allows you to stop along restaurants along the coastal roads for a drink and a view.

If you are into shopping like BKK, Phuket shopping in comparison is quite rubbish. Jungceylon is not worth the time going unless you want to go for cheap facial and Central Festival is also boring unless you want to go for Jap bbq buffet and B2S.

Night market isn't anything to shout about either if you are a frequent visitor to Chatuchak. No local designed clothes, mostly branded knockoffs. Food at night market also imo nothing particularly special if you are a frequent visitor to BKK. Those roadside BBQ stalls by the beach though are a different story. Super nice and cheap!

Best thing to do is to just chill at the beach and once in a while have a massage by the beach.

Phuket > Bali

was there 2 weeks back............same thoughts............but i went on weekdays.......didn't get to see the night market tho......... :D :D

You can actually stay in those little huts at the bottom. Very cheap if you are into that sort of thing.

I just went during sep school holiday.

I rent my car from hertz.

Coniveient as collection and drop off is at the airport.

My stay was at centara west sand, it has a water theme park like wild wild wet, good for kids.

It is a big resort that you need buggy to go to the rest for breakfast.

Very nice sea view as well

But location is abit far from town

its quite safe for children during off-peak on weekdays.
