Actually if you are worried about distance, a combination of bicycle + trains/buses where bicycle are rented for a norminal fee and can be return at any designated places nearby train stations / major bus stops etc will solve your problems.

The $1m collected for each car owners will be used to fund the bicycle rental system and even some sheltered bicycle lanes for extreme hot weather or rains.

Ya. Paying $35K to renew COE for 5 years plus u lose the scrap value abt $10K is aby $5K per year.

Might as well buy a 2nd hand car sud b cheaper.

My car also COE expire in 2016 buy I hope the COE wil drop to much lesser by then. Only then wil I consider to renew my COE. Otherwise I just switch to ride motorbike.

I think its crazy to pay $70K for the COE. [hur]

Don't forget about the different rd tax structure for cars over 10 yrs old. Incremental over the 1st 5 yrs of COE renewal.

Nice watch

Simply refuse to use the other hand to point.

Probably another Daytona on the right wrist...

I taken into account the 10% increase in Rtax per year till 5 yrs with max 50% additional rTax. Its not that much.

Losing the scrap value is more.

I prefer to renew coe for 10 yrs.

Oh I see. But also depends on the car's engine cap. If smaller cc still ok.

Borrow this thread.

Anyone has any idea when after 6 attempts, car dealer failed to secure a COE for me and I decided not to extend, refund of my deposit needs 2 - 3 weeks. Is that usual?

true, for up to 1.6. Even at 15th yr, approx. 1k pr year for engine levy.

Think if its 1.5, will be just <1k.

Bidding status as at 05/03/2014 16:22 hrs

A CAR UP TO 1600CC & 97KW 76,999 365 615

D MOTORCYCLE 4,001 368 483

From the above, it reinforces to me again that dealers are the ones pushing.

Its calibrated to push to the maximum tolerable limit of the intended segment/demographics.

Hi Bros,

Just want to check if I deregister my ride. Will I be able to get my full rebate in cash/cheque? I understand previously, we can only get a paper which can be used to offset my car purchase.

My car due for scrap within mtns

I had buzzed some banks / finance, yes they does do COE loan, interest @ 3% +

T&T are 25% down pay of the PQP and bal 5 yrs installment for a 10 yrs COE

Now I caught in between as my current old car is still petty damn good for many yrs to go and the parf I can back is about 20k exclude car body

Dammit, should I just pay up the 25% COE loan and move on with the old car or take the parf change another 2nd hand car

P/S: dont ask me which bank / finance does COE loan, google and u can find the answer

You mean you want to pay close to $80K for PQP (75% loan) just to drive a 10-yr old car for another 10 years ... and lose $20K PARF in the process?

Your total opportunity cost will be close to $100K!

On top of that, you'll pay a higher road tax, incur higher FC (old engine), go for inspection annually, only third-party insurance (no insurance company will insure you for the COE amount only) - so if you wreck the car, you either LLST incur 100% repair cost yourself, or scrap it - only to get back pro-rata residual COE.

In short, insurance company will not compensate you with fair market value, if it's considered a write off case!

What about spare parts availability for the model? Still supported by workshops?

I am talking about specific engine parts, glass and replacement body panels, if damaged and unrepairable.

For a $100K opportunity cost and all the embedded encumbrances, forget it lah.

Just get a used car.

Or consider public transport and save money?
