tanbk 4th Gear January 2, 2014 Share January 2, 2014 camping here for more referrals . . . any with good solid wood? cheapo materials will warp in our humid weather. Carpenters will always use plywood for cabinets. In most cases, this is good enough. IKEA uses chipwood which falls in your category of Cheapo materials. I don't know what is considered a good carpenter. But I have used the below before to reasonable satisfaction. My 4 foot fish tank leaked a couple of years ago and the compressed wood soakk up the water and POOM! expanded. Carpenters will always use plywood for cabinets. In most cases, this is good enough. Silver_blade Turbocharged January 2, 2014 Share January 2, 2014 Very good carpenters are few & they usually charge an arm & a leg. Decently good ones still have some buy so-so & lousy ones a lot. I'm in the industry (I don't do reno, just in case ppl think I've vasted interest) & I haven't seen a really good workmanship one for some years. Some really 'solid' ones my clients engaged are good but not great (either cos their skill are just not good or due to client's budget).

Karu 6th Gear January 2, 2014 Share January 2, 2014 (edited) Ply wood is the most common material these days for build in furniture. Seldom see anyone use solid wood unless you go for those made to measure teak furniture from Indon. I'm also looking for a carpenter. Nowadays, most are contracted by ID / Contractors. Not many are interested in doing 'small' jobs. Think most of them are based in Malaysia. Edited January 2, 2014 by Karu
