Air con not cold

Let me share my misfortune.

 

May 13,I changed my compressor as it was producing "grinding" sound when it kicks in. As a p plater and a newbie, i just nodded my head. $550 Damage

 

Apr 14, air-conditioning not cold, went to check and found out cooling coil leaked. Car still left 4 yrs plus, so changed. Damage is $450.

2 weeks later, not cold again, went back same wksp, denied that it's faulty coil as it's still under warranty. Diagnosed it's broken air intake valve nipple (same as needle thingy which you see when u uncap to pump air into your types. Damage is $30.

 

May 14, not cold and leaked gas again!! Went to same and other wksp to confirm that my 1yr old compress body is leaking!! LL, change again. Damage is $535.

 

Ppl always say put aside 2-3k to replace faulty parts when u purchase used car. How true is that.. Nowadays, whenever I go servicing, my hands will shake.. hahaha.

Many AC shops r crooks n incompentent. They wil suck u dry.

 

I go Markcool n only see Ah Huat the foreman. So far I have no such problems with him.

Huh. How come yr AC coil spoil so fast? Cooling coil usually last longer than the 10 year COE even.

 

My Optra its already 8 years n still good. Usually coil can last very long. Only my compressor I changed abt >1 year ago.

 

I have an aftermarket ionioser but that dun affect the ac cos it just cleans n sterelizes the air.

Don't know leh... Nothing spoil so far except leak coiling coil once when the car was like 3.5yrs old... Now 7+yrs, so suspect cooling coil koyak again... Anyway, I'll leave it to expert to diagnosis.. .. Will either check with mark cool or tomika.....

Usually, I dun mention name of wksp, so not to undermine their reputations.. anyway, I did all the repairs at To**ka and my last compressor was changed at Mar**ool. Sad thing is these parts doesn' come with long warranty. So maybe just my bad luck.

Actually, I rarely drive in hot day time, so i can actually bear with it. But seeing wife and children sweating when we go out during weekends, I know I gonna spend that money.. Just my luck maybe. Anyway, I driving a Optra magnum '08, is it true that I must set the temp to coldest(blue label) at all times? Cos I heard the coil will ice after long drive if I dun, please advise.

bro, I suggest you go both shops to reaffirm the fault and also compare the prices.. although the distances are far, but it's worth the effort..

So the compressor only lasted one year? That's is unusual of a compressor breakdown so fast.

It is not necessary true. Many times it depends on luck also.... Some people I know buy used car don't really have a problem at all, except to change wear-n-tear parts.

 

Not only you, many of us also hand shake when going for servicing....its normal lah.

The first compressor, the Ah Huat said the body got dislodged aabit maybe due to heat when metal expands. So the air leak thru the gap, he also showed me the oil(luminous green) also leaked all overt the place. He shared that it is indeed rare for a compressor to die so fast, but there are csimilar cases.I guess it was a lemon product. So pray hard for my existing one.

I used to go to moto-aire. They were good, but 50% more costly than New Luck, based on changing evaporator coil alone.

I wouldn't hesitate to go back to New Luck any time for aircon problem.

I remember last time, aircon not Cold, top up gas, cold but after a while not Cold again and got some smell also.. Then totally not Cold at all... I think they check pressure and determine coming coil leak... True enough... When take out, damn chialat with the colorant very obvious at one corner....

 

Sibei Sian... Just now jam like mad at kje, no aircon..smell all the smoke... And I cannot Tahan hot one.. Sweat like mad... Knn... Thinking of taking leave tomorrow to get it done...

Not sure, I went there around afternoon.

But I think best you go there around 9 am where you can be amongst the first and don't need to wait too long.

bro, when u mentioned "smell", what kinda smell is it? how long did it last?
