Our Hotel rates are more expensive than Hkg. What happened ? 1 word : Landlord. As for me our enemy is not our retail shops. It's our country's landlords. How can we hurt them? What can we do? Buying from shops hurt my pocket. HK not really cheaper. Rental also very expensive. HKG restaurants - if you want to eat there, you must make a reservation, even on a weekday.But so many times I hear my HKG Tong See say even these restaurans are operating at full capacity they close down becuase of the rental. Sgp is heading to this direction. But Fools are born every minute, there is no shortage of some people willing to make a gamble to lease a shop space at crazy price. If you go to cheap restro, confirm need to book because everyone flocks there. Want to eat, then go to the better ones. Weekdays will be ok. Weekends may need to book. Rental as always will kill off a lot of businesses. No choice when landlords suck them dry. Increase prices too much and patrons disappear from stores. Nothing they can do but to close shop. A lot of trades are gone because of that. Now a lot of retail shops in HK also feeling the heat with less mainland chinese nowadays.
