Why do people buy SUVs, not wagons in Singapore?

A better question would be, why sedan instead of wagon, when the later does everything the formal, plus more storage space.

I think, other than Singaporeans, like Americans, just doesn't like the look of Wagon, & storage space is not really need in Singapore, as packed long road trips are rare, as well as the need to carry stuff like furniture or other big stuff yourself (most places delivered to your home, install it at the exact place you want), unlike some other places where many things are DIY.

I do think, once you have a wagon, you will unlikely go back to a sedan. I say it with my own experience. If I have a sedan, I would not been able to stuff my bicycle in the car.

SUV and wagon both have extra 'cargo' space but a SUV is heavy and less stable (due to higher centre of gravity), less fuel economical, etc than a wagon. A SUV doesnt really drive like a sedan while a wagon does, more or less. Try going fast through corners and you can feel the difference in handling.

In Singapore most SUV users seldom go off road so the so-called off-road ability is hardly needed.

But we see much more SUVs than wagons everyday.

Not all SUVs on the road are 7 seater, so the extra passenger seats shouldnt be the key reason for the owners.

because SUV can go thru the once in 50yrs flood in unique Singapore while wagon cannot [lipsrsealed]

Ladies drive SUV to use it's height / bulk to avoid being bullied. Hooligans use the same to bully others??!! [sweatdrop]

no lah, hooligan not use size to bully, they mod the engine and use the super loud sound to scare off weak hearted

Wagons are dearer by at least SGD 8K to 10K compared to their sedan counterparts.

Heck, even hatchbacks are more expensive than sedans by 5K minimum.

1) SUV make one feel that he is "GAO REN YI DENG". Higher in social status. You sit higher & look further than others. Of coz, u feel u are richer coz SUV are usually more expensive than sedans. Looked sporty & tough.

2) Wagon look more like a van. Not sporty and price maybe more expensive than normal sedan.

are u sure SUV will be gao ren yi deng when you are driving this wagon beside

It is the Crossover that is more popular now than true SUV as it is a good middle ground. However, these taller cars have many blind spots and if you notice, many of them have scrapped bumpers. Not to mention they pose danger to smaller children - I remember a case in SG where the parent backed her SUV over her child :(.

SUVs are popularised by the Americans whereas Europeans prefer wagons, mainly because of the different driving condition between the two continents. Personally I think for SG driving, wagons should be better due to road conditions and the smallish carparks.

I was amazed that I can I load and transport an electone organ in my wagon.

I think honda airwave is a successful case of station wagon.

But I don't like design of extended 3rd side windscreen or whatever u call it. Stil prefer SUV due to more mascular look. Station wagons look very dated. I guess that's y.

I used a Pajero for a few years, the high driving position does have its advantage [grin] Getting in and out is easy for older people provided they are tall enough [thumbsup]

With a Pajero, you can be drive into those jungles, even late at night also no problem......and no worries got those passer-by trying to peep in to see your "action"... [:p]

the definition of "SUV" is unambiguous, look around Singapore SUV market, only few models are conventional SUV,

BMW X, Audi Q, Subaru Forester,

Land Rover etc

others at most are higher chassis wagons

Since you have such kinky idea, I recommend you get a windowless panel van for endless jungle rampage with your targets!! Lots of privacy, even monkeys can't peep at you!!!

Nowadays cross-over type is getting popular also!!

Btw, when supercar makers are selling so-called suv, this segment of vehicle market is getting lucrative for the makers.

Not lar.... I do miss my Toyota Caldina GT4 wagon..... and it sure did not look like a hearse.

Asian mentality. Wagon = Hearse. Pantang. Also panel van last time also like wagon. So in general, wagons are not appealing to the 'old' mindset.

Not all SUVs are 7 seater.... only a few... like Volvo XC90?

Not all wagons are 7 seaters too... I particularly like the older version of Volvo V70 and also the Mercedes E Class. The extra 2 seater are in the boot and faces the rear :)
