  1. If you are an ex- or current owner, or have driven, seen them. Will crossovers be more popular in SGP driving environment in coming years? Will you buy one for the experience and move to other types eg MPV, sedan, etc after it? Or stay with the type for as long as you could?
  2. SUV and wagon both have extra 'cargo' space but a SUV is heavy and less stable (due to higher centre of gravity), less fuel economical, etc than a wagon. A SUV doesnt really drive like a sedan while a wagon does, more or less. Try going fast through corners and you can feel the difference in handling. In Singapore most SUV users seldom go off road so the so-called off-road ability is hardly needed. But we see much more SUVs than wagons everyday. Not all SUVs on the road are 7 seater, so the extra passenger seats shouldnt be the key reason for the owners.

  4. Lamborghini to follow Porsche and Maserati with SUV PARIS/BERLIN - Lamborghini, the maker of low-slung supercars once advertised as "closer to the road", is planning a new model that will be further from the tarmac than ever: an SUV. The Italian brand, owned by Volkswagen, aims to announce the vehicle at April's Beijing auto show for a 2016 launch, according to two people with knowledge of the strategy. At the risk of alienating purist fans of its 313,000 euro (S$512,790) Aventador carbon-fibre sports car, Lamborghini hopes to repeat the Porsche Cayenne's success in the fast-growing market for luxury four-by-fours. "An SUV could be cool, but it would have to be the fastest on the planet and look extreme," said Andrew Romanowski, president of the world's biggest Lamborghini owners' club, based in Los Angeles. "If it turned out like a run-of-the-mill BMW X5, it would be a betrayal," Romanowski said. "People would be very upset." The planned vehicle reflects a push to increase profitability at Lamborghini and VW stablemate Bentley, with new models to meet upscale demand for all-wheel-drives. Britain's Bentley last year announced tentative plans for its own SUV. "Porsche proved that it works, to the industry's great surprise, and now everyone is flocking in," said Christoph Stuermer, Frankfurt-based research director at IHS Automotive. By 2015, sales of the plushest SUVs will increase about 20 per cent in Western Europe, 30 per cent in the US and 50 per cent in China, the consulting firm predicts. The Cayenne has become Porsche's top-selling model since its launch a decade ago, with 59,000 sold last year and a 121,000 euro price tag on the high-performance Turbo version. taken from http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...207-326279.html WOW now we got to see super luxury SUV... i like the maser Kubang, wonder how much the price in sg... got 500k?
  5. Toyota Motor [TM Loading... () ] said on Thursday it would recall about 333,000 RAV4 and Highlander SUVs because of the risk airbags sensors could fail and cause the curtain airbags to deploy. The recall covers about 214,000 RAV4 and about 94,000 Highlander SUVs from the 2007 and 2008 model years in the United States,andabout19,000 RAV4 and 6,000 Highlanders in Canada. The recall only affects vehicles sold in North America, Toyota said. Toyota said owners of the vehicles would be notified of the recall bymail in May. Toyota said that, in cases where two sensors fail at almost the same time, the side curtain airbags designed to protect passengers in a rollover accident could be inflated outside such an accident. In cases where just one of the sensors fails, the airbags warning light will be activated, the automaker said. The sensors were made by Denso. A Toyota spokesman said a change was made in the making of the sensors in January 2008 that fixed the issue and that no more recalls on this issue are expected. The spokesman said he knew of no accidents related to the curtain airbags issue, but said that some minor injuries have been reported.
  6. The Range Rover box at the Paris Motor Show revealed the 3 door version of the fantastic looking Evoque, and now, they've rolled out their 5 door version of the sporty, scaled down SUV. With 5 doors, the Evoque is set to be more versatile and practical than before and besides the additional 2 doors, there aren't any aesthetic changes or any major differences in its dimensions. The 5 door version is identical in width, length and wheelbase but there is a difference in height; 30mm above the driver's head and 40mm at the back. With more doors comes an airier cabin and the best thing I would like to have from this Range Rover is that ultra cool dual view technology display at the front where the driver sees a map for example, while the passenger at the front watches a movie! The Evoque also comes with sophisticated suspension, called MagneRide Adjustable suspension, which make the SUV more car-like in terms of its handling and though we won't use much of its Terrain Response electronics to handle off road bumps and crests, its still a pretty neat thing to have in your baby Range Rover. Under the bonnet, you can either have a two-wheel drive eD4 diesel which emits 135g/km of CO2 from a 150bhp 2.2l engine, or a new 240bhp turbocharged petrol engine. I'd rather go for the latter if I was going to buy one, but anyhow, this thing looks great! Probably the best looking SUV ever made. (photos courtesy of autoexpress)

Hey bros and sis. Comparing Wish, Stream and Murano, does the Murano have bigger seats than Wish / Stream? Also, which has bigger space , legroom, etc? Thinking of changing from sedan in the future thanks
  8. Hi Had anyone tried the V12 on SUVs? Are the side walls hard enough? I've read a few reviews about them and all commented pretty the same on good on dry and wet grip. Is there anyone whom had tried these? hows the consumption? I'm looking to switch from my 215/60/R17 to 235/50/R18 instead. With the reduction of 10mm thickness will the noise be heard?
  9. Land Rover has finally broken their tradition of building 4X4 for the last 60 years, and come up with this; a Front Wheel Drive only Land Rover. Its currently called the 'Land Rover Compact' and by looking at its dimensions, you can understand where its name was derived. The Compact is still in its concept stage but it is very near production ready and this is probably Land Rover's best bet at infiltrating the un-Land Roverish land of Singapore... People here would question, why would I need all the gizmos and low range gears of a Land Rover? Not to mention the immense size of the thing and how it drinks petrol, its as good as pouring it down the drain and burning holes in all your wallets. This Land Rover is different. Its aimed at the stay home mom who has to ferry the kids to school, and then to soccer practice and then for tuition yet provides the elevated driving road position and the presence which will prevent road going Bengs from bullying you. Its like buying the shell of an SUV yet it doesn't give you the feeling of being ripped off just because it is shaped to be an SUV as it suits the urban lifestyle and doesn't make you pay for all the robustness and 4 wheel drive gadgetry that you don't really need. This particular model here is by far the best looking Land Rover I've ever seen. It looks sleek, modern and contemporary. It would just blast the BMW X5 out the door with this kind of looks rather than the chunky elephant that is rather common on Singapore roads. Buying one of these is like buying a Jaguar while everyone else is running to Mercedes showrooms, it makes you feel unique. And rather special. Of course there will be critics who say that Land Rover is losing the 'brand values' of being a thoroughbred 4X4 SUV manufacturer, but I think this idea is brilliant. I do hope this comes to Singapore because its totally cool.
  10. Can't believe this is happening in Singapore. Posting this to spread the news so that people will be more careful even in Singapore. Cheers!! http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,170806,00.html July 15, 2008 Print Ready Email Article OWNERS of luxury sports utility vehicles (SUVs), beware. There has been a recent spike in the theft of such vehicles. In the two weeks between 13 and 25 Jun, 12 SUVs were stolen, police said. In comparison, only one SUV was stolen in the first five months of this year. However, there has been no new reports since 25 Jun. The targeted models? Higher-end SUVs such as the Lexus RX, Toyota Harrier and RAV4. A police spokesman said the thefts were committed islandwide, and most of them were stolen from multi-storey carparks. In the most recent case, the car owner had parked and secured his SUV at the open carpark at Blk 526 Serangoon North Ave 4 on 24 Jun at about 11pm. He discovered the car missing when he returned the next day at about 1pm. To warn the public, a crime advisory from the police was put up in the popular Hardware Zone forum. It included a list of steps that car owners can take to protect their cars from being stolen. The advisory stated that the car thieves managed to make away with the SUVs even though they were equipped with security systems. On two occasions, broken glass was found at the scene where the vehicles were last parked. It is believed that the culprits gained access by smashing the rear passenger windows before disabling the alarm system. Police investigations are underway and patrols increased at affected locations. One victim, possibly the first in the spree, is Mr Steven Theo, 35, a quality assurance manager. He had parked his silver Toyota RAV4, which he bought for about $78,000 in late 2006, at a multi-storey carpark near his Toa Payoh home on 12 Jun. When he went there the next day at noon, it was gone. PANIC He told The New Paper: 'I thought at first I had parked on a different floor, so I went around, but I still couldn't find it. That was when I started to panic.' After combing the whole carpark, he made a police report. He said: 'I was definitely shocked. You wouldn't imagine your car being stolen in Singapore.' His car had been installed with a standard alarm system, and he said he had definitely locked his car. Mr Theo said he posted the theft on the online forum of RAV4 Expedition, a website for RAV4 enthusiasts. Another victim said on the OneMotoring online forum that his 3 1/2-year-old Toyota Harrier was stolen on 19 Jun in an open-air Housing Board carpark. His car was equipped with an immobiliser, an electronic device fitted to a vehicle that prevents the engine from running unless the correct key or token is present. At the lot where his car used to be were small broken glass pieces. Echoing Mr Theo's disbelief, the Harrier owner wrote: 'I couldn't believe it happened to me and in Singapore, at a busy HDB estate.' Shin Min Daily News also reported on two SUV thefts on 17 Jun – an $108,000 SUV stolen from a multi-storey carpark in Jurong, and another $85,000 RAV4 stolen from a Kim Keat carpark. Mr Theo said he has not bought a new car, as the insurance for the stolen car has not been settled yet. But he said he will probably not buy an SUV again. He said: 'Before I bought it, I knew the cars were 'hot' in Malaysia and had a greater danger of being stolen. That was why I drove it to places (in Malaysia) that were familiar to me. 'I probably won't get an SUV again. But if I do, I will go for the models that are not that 'popular' # Anyone with information about the car thefts, or wishing to report any suspicious persons loitering at the vicinity of the carparks, can call the police at 999 or at 1800–2550000.
  11. SUVs plunge toward 'endangered' list From Chris Lawrence CNN LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Jorge Fernandez strolls across the used-car parking lot littered with dozens upon dozens of sport utility vehicles the size of small tugboats. With gas at $4 a gallon, many have sat there since last summer. "The cars are literally just sitting, and it doesn't matter how much you sell them for," Fernandez says of the SUVs and trucks nobody wants anymore. "It's amazing. I've never seen it this bad -- ever." Fernandez, a wholesale auto dealer who has been in the business for more than 20 years, says SUV owners are hit especially hard. The really large ones with V-8 engines that can get as little as 12 miles per gallon in the city -- like the Cadillac Escalade, Ford Expedition and Chevy Suburban -- are dropping in value by the thousands. Watch the sinking value of guzzlers
  12. 3 different people I know who drive either SUV or MPV type of vehicles are changing to sedan cars. Reason: Petrol bills skyrocketing. Agree or not ? Apparently some used car dealers in the USA are turning away customers who want to sell their oil-guzzling SUVs... the market is now for zippy little cars.
  13. dunno if gotta aircon or not??? A FAMILIAR sight in military camps and training grounds here, the Land Rover Defender will be making way for a new generation of sports-utility vehicles, the Ford Everest. The Ministry of Defence has placed an order for 870 Thai-made Fords as part of a programme to renew its ageing fleet of some 3,000 Land Rovers. The recently sealed deal with Sime Darby's Regent Motors - the Ford agent here - is said to be worth around $85 million, with an option for 500 more vehicles. The Straits Times understands that more than 50 Everests - painted in the army's camouflage green - have already been delivered. The purchase comes after plans to launch a novel scheme - to have civilians co-own and drive military SUVs during peacetime - was shelved. The Everest is Ford's made-in-Asia, made-for-Asia product, based on the Ranger pickup truck. It is assembled in Thailand, Malaysia, India, Vietnam and the Philippines. In civilian form, it is marketed as a seven-seater SUV. Regent Motor had wanted to add it to its passenger car range two years ago, but decided against it as it felt Singaporeans might want a more refined vehicle. But the robust SUV is expected to be a hit with the military. Mr Lee Nian Tjoe, editor of Torque, a motoring magazine published by Singapore Press Holdings, said: 'The Land Rover Defender may be cool, but from a practical point of view, the Ford Everest is better.' Mr Lee, an avid off-roader, said being an Asian car, the Everest is 'easier and cheaper to maintain'. The SUV is also more user-friendly for our soldiers. It has a three-litre diesel engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. It can be driven as a four-wheel or two-wheel drive - hence saving fuel when it is not required to negotiate rugged terrain. Most of the Land Rover Defenders here are 2.5-litre diesel manuals with permanent four-wheel drive. The purchase represents Mindef's first major move away from Land Rover. Mindef spokesman Colonel Darius Lim said: 'After an extensive evaluation, the Ford Everest was selected...to replace the ageing Land Rovers, some of which have been in service for more than 20 years.' Besides meeting 'operational requirements'. he said the Everests were 'more cost-effective than the Land Rovers'.
  14. Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd plans to start CKD assembly of Hyundai SUVs by mid-2007, in efforts to capture a bigger share of the non-national car market. Hyundai
