  1. I was driving leisurely back from my hometown @ Kukup to Singapore this morning on a Good Friday. After passing by Malaysia custom at 2nd link, I saw nothing but cars, many many cars in the highway all cannot move struck in the massive massive jams leading into Malaysia. Every 200m there are police personal watching for Q-cutting vehicles, esp those who like to cut using road shoulder like what I will do. So everyone please be careful and do not cut Q. I drove along the 2nd link for a good 2-3 minutes and found that the Q were so terrible that it stretched about 3-5 km until Singapore custom. ITs about 9am in the morning so I reckon those vehicles will reach JB at about 1pm cos they Q is not moving. Next time if must go Malaysia, please reach Singapore custom at 4-5 am in the morning. AT least the jams wouldnt be so terrible!

Being a Mother or Having a Mother

Beautiful article. Since this was sent to me and Mother's Day is just round the corner, I want to wish all mothers a Happy Mother's Day and Single Friends to treasure your Mother more :) BEING A MOTHER After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said, 'I love you, but I know this other woman loves you and would Love to spend some time with you.' The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my Mother, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally. That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie. 'What's wrong, are you well,' she asked? My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news. 'I thought that it would be pleasant to spend some time with you,' I responded 'just the two of us.' She thought about it for a moment, and then said, 'I would like that very much.' That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary. She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel's. 'I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed,' she said, as she got into the car. 'They can't wait to hear about our meeting.' We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady. After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. Half-way through the entrees, I lifted my eyes and saw Mother sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips. 'It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small,' she said. 'Then it's time that you relax and let me return the favor,' I responded. During the dinner , we had an agreeable conversation nothing extraordinary but catching up on recent events of each other's life. We talked so much that we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said, 'I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you.' I agreed. 'How was your dinner date?' asked my wife when I got home. 'Very nice, much more so than I could have imagined,' I answered. A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn't have a chance to do anything for her. Sometime later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place Mother and I had dined. An attached note said: 'I paid this bill in advance. I wasn't sure that I could be there; but, nevertheless, I paid for two plates - one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me. 'I love you, son' At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time: 'I love YOU' and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve. Nothing in life is more important than your family. Give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till some 'other' time. Somebody said it takes about six weeks to get back to normal after you've had a baby... somebody doesn't know that once you're a mother, 'normal' is history. Somebody said you can't love the second child as much as you love the first... somebody doesn't have two or more children. Somebody said the hardest part of being a mother is labor and delivery....somebody never watched her 'baby' get on the bus for the first day of kindergarten... or on a plane headed for military 'boot camp.' Somebody said a Mother can stop worrying after her child gets married... somebody doesn't know that marriage adds a new son or daughter-in-law to a mother's heartstrings. Somebody said a mother's job is done when her last child leaves home... somebody never had grandchildren. Somebody said your mother knows you love her, so you don't need to tell her... somebody isn't a mother. Pass this along to all the GREAT 'mothers' in your life and to everyone who ever had a mother.
  3. new low here ... Son and mother charged with faking death to obtain CPF, insurance claims SINGAPORE: A man and his mother were charged on Friday (Apr 12) with faking her death to obtain Central Provident Fund (CPF) and insurance claims, the police said. Abraham Rock, 35, and his mother Talat Farman, 53, are accused of making more than S$3.7 million in false claims. Insurance firm AXA lodged a police report on Nov 13, 2018, after it found several irregularities in the documents relating to Farman’s purported death in Pakistan. By then, S$49,000 had already been paid out from the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) under the Dependants' Protection Scheme while S$80,331.23 was paid out from her CPF account. Officers from the Commercial Affairs Department arrested Rock on Nov 21, 2018. Farman was also subsequently arrested. Rock faces a total of 11 charges, including charges of engaging in a conspiracy to commit cheating, giving false information, making a false statutory declaration and providing false evidence. His mother faces five charges of engaging in a conspiracy to cheat. If found guilty of cheating, the pair faces up to 10 years in jail and a fine for each charge. For making a false statutory declaration or providing false evidence, they face up to seven years in jail and a fine for each charge. If found guilty of giving false information, they face up to one year in jail and a fine of up to S$5,000 for each charge. Both are out on bail of S$15,000 each and will return to court on May 10. The police said that they worked closely with the insurers during the investigation. “In our continuous effort to combat fraud, it is vital for all insurers to be proactive in detecting and reporting suspicious cases to the authorities,” the police said.

    Wife vs Mother

Wife goes: "Yr mother ah....pisses me off, stubborn freak, cant stand her....!" Mother goes:" yr wife ah...unappreciative, complain this , complain that....!" Ring a bell, guys? To some lucky ones, this may sound alien. Unfortunately, majority of the guys face these ill fate.Between the protracted tug of wars, sad to say you can never take side. If you do, you are either labelled as defensive or offensive. Chinese saying "one mountain cannot hide 2 tigers." IMHO, its very true. Truce is never found in their dictionary. Interestingly , you are the man of her(wife)life and you are also the forever little boy in her(mother)eyes. These 2 bigots trying to overthrow each other to gain tyranny. Whoever wins, the guy is usually the casualty. Torn between these 2, how well and happy can he be..? One is his love and the one is his mother, how? Guys How do you handle such similar situation if any? Any experience to share? Gals What would you like your man to do ? Listen..Defend...Silence? I hope this is not contentious.

Dentist son needs to pay back mother for school and upbringing fees. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asiapacific/taiwan-court-orders-dentist-to-pay-mother-for-raising-him-9828752#cxrecs_s What a highly dysfunctional family. The mother can't trust her own parenting skill for her children to have some modicum of fillial piety and support her in old age. Need to have them sign contract when they are so young. This woman sounds highly toxic. she may have gotten her compensation. But she'll spend the last years of her life alone. worth it meh
  7. Another sad news again. Mother throws two children from apartment balcony: S Korea police A 4-year-old boy is dead and a 2-year-old girl seriously injured after being thrown from the balcony of the apartment where they lived, police said Friday. Police found the children in a flowerbed outside the apartment. The boy was dead, while the daughter was seriously injured. The mother's body was found in another flowerbed shortly beforehand, by a deliveryman who initially reported the case to the police. Police believe that the mother first strangled her son to death and took both children to the balcony, where she threw them off one by one. They added that the mother jumped from the emergency staircase window in a deliberate act of suicide, but added that they were "still investigating the exact cause of the incident." http://www.asiaone.com/asia/mother-throws-two-children-apartment-balcony-s-korea-police
  8. Why?? Our world is such.... A Saudi court granted a couple's divorce after a woman accused the man of leaving his mother and family to be with her. The Saudi Gazette reports that they had no problems as a couple but that the way he treated his family bothered the wife. She told the judge, "I can never trust a man who does everything to keep his wife happy while he denies even a small favour to his mother." The woman said her husband, 29, took care of her, giving her expensive gifts and trips abroad. However, the woman felt that "a man who is not good to his own mother cannot be trusted. He may turn his back on me anytime in the future." The man was reported to have been in deep shock. He would do everything to keep her, he told the judge. He asked her, "Didn't I abandon my own family for you?" "Yes, and this is the very reason I want divorce from you," the woman retorted. The divorce was granted after she returned the dowry from her husband. http://www.asiaone.com/asia/woman-divorces-husband-choosing-her-over-mother

    Twin Baby Different Father

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/woman-gives-birth-new-baby-5665572 A new mum has given birth to twins who have two different fathers. The incredible case was revealed after the woman, identified only as T.M., named her current boyfriend as the father of her twins. But T.M. admitted before maternity papers were signed that she had actually slept with a different man a week after she believed she conceived with her boyfriend. A paternity test was carried out and it was revealed that the two men had each fathered one of the twins, who are now toddlers. It seems medically impossible, but a woman can give birth to twins with two fathers when she has sex with two different men in the same week. In a process known as heteropaternal superfecundation, the rare incident occurs when a woman releases two eggs during her menstrual cycle and different men fertilise one egg each. It is a more common occurrence when the same dad fertilises two eggs during separate incidences of sex.

Never Mess With Mother Nature .....

from Yahoo : 'Storm Chasers' star Tim Samaras, son die chasing Oklahoma tornado By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News | The Lookout
  16. So it is all about the money, money, money and money is all they want and money is their end game... All those hoohoohaha is just for show only .... Looks like so many people kanna made use of. So, just say how much is the compensation lah? http://www.allsingaporestuff.com/article/dead-inmates-mother-happy-government-compensation DEAD INMATE'S MOTHER IS HAPPY WITH GOVERNMENT COMPENSATION The mother of an inmate who died in Changi Prison has withdrawn her appeal for a second inquest into her son's death following an "amicable settlement" with the Government. Madam Selvi Narayanasamy, 45, has also withdrawn her civil suit seeking compensation for the death of her son Dinesh Raman Chinnaiah, bringing the saga to a close. The amount of money paid to Madam Selvi in the settlement is confidential. Dinesh, then 21, had died of breathing problems while being placed chest down and left in an isolation cell on Sept 27, 2010. He was restrained after he kicked a prison warden on Sept 27, 2010. The coroner's inquiry into his death was discontinued after senior prison officer Lim Kwo Yin pleaded guilty last year. The officer was fined $10,000 for causing death by negligence. Madam Selvi filed a judicial review challenging the coroner's decision not to continue the inquiry into her son's death shortly after but that was dismissed by the High Court in October last year. She appealed and arguments were heard earlier this month before the three-judge Court of Appeal, which reserved judgment. On Wednesday, Madam Selvi's lawyer M. Ravi told the appeals court that "parties have arrived at an amicable settlement" and she was withdrawing her appeal. Senior State Counsel Tai Wei Shyong had no objections. Madam Selvi was not in court but Mr Ravi said she was "quite happy" with the settlement. "It's also a closure for her. She has decided to move on with her life," he said. "She felt vindicated when her rights were ventilated before the High Court and Court of Appeal."
  17. The debate some months ago regarding SMRT's announcement of station names in only English and Mandarin threw up some interesting views. Proponents raised arguments that there was nothing wrong in catering to the linguistic needs of elderly Singaporeans and Chinese tourists. Those in opposition contended that it neglected our Malay and Indian communities. Some groups wanted all four official languages to be used. The incident was a microcosm of different groups in Singapore with competing linguistic interests and ideologies. Of course, the social and economic dominance of English in Singapore is not new. Both the Government and various groups have long been trying to reverse the declining use of mother tongue languages. However, for the first time in our history, those who use and see English as their de facto mother tongue, are becoming the majority of the population. There are implications for all of us. CONTRADICTIONS WITH POLICY After two generations of the bilingual policy, many Singaporeans are increasingly using English as their principal home language. This shift towards English is prevalent in all racial groups, but most apparent amongst young Chinese families. According to Ministry of Education figures, the proportion of Chinese students entering Primary 1 who speak predominantly English at home, rose from 36 per cent in 1994 to 50 per cent in 2004. At the same time, surveys suggest that as younger Singaporeans grow up as native speakers of English (ie, English being the first language they acquire as a child), they will increasingly claim ownership of English, with the language being core to their identity. This is not to say that Singaporeans are becoming monolingual English-speakers

Mother bear kills cub and then itself

pretty amazing but sad animal story. ----- Mother bear kills cub and then itself Friday, Aug 05, 2011 The Chinese media has reported on an extraordinary account of a mother bear saving her cub from a life of torture by strangling it and then killing itself. The bears were kept in a farm located in a remote area in the North-West of China. The bears on the farm had their gall bladders milked daily for 'bear bile,' which is used as a remedy in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It was reported that the bears are kept in tiny cages known as 'crush cages', as the bears have no room to manoeuvre and are literally crushed. The bile is harvested by making a permanent hole or fistula in the bears' abdomen and gall bladder. As the hole is never closed, the animals are suspect to various infections and diseases including tumours, cancers and death from peritonitis. The bears are fitted with an iron vest, as they often try to kill themselves by hitting their stomach as they are unable to bear the pain. A person who was on the farm in place of a friend witnessed the procedures and told Reminbao.com that they were inhumane. The witness also claimed that a mother bear broke out its cage when it heard its cub howl in fear before a worker punctured its stomach to milk the bile. The workers ran away in fear when they saw the mother bear rushing to its cub's side. Unable to free the cub from its restraints, the mother hugged the cub and eventually strangled it. It then dropped the cub and ran head-first into a wall, killing itself. Many TCM practitioners have denounced the use of bear bile in their treatment as there are cheaper herbs and synthetics that can be used in its place. Bear bile is traditionally used to remove 'heat' from the body as well as treat high fever, liver ailments and sore eyes.
