  1. The brakes on the car must be good, rider was wearing no protection and still escaped unscathed. What happened? On 11 September 2023, at Yishun Industrial Street 1 (because OF COURSE it was at Yishun), a food delivery rider on a PAB (Power Assisted Bicycle) ignored a stop line at a junction and was subsequently hit by a car. The car was going at around 30km/h and unable to avoid the rider, who was already onto the road and stopped moving like a deer in headlights. Upon impact, the rider was thrown off his bike and rolled on the road a couple times before getting back up. Rather smoothly, I must say. In an amazing stroke of luck, the rider seemed uninjured, despite not wearing a helmet or any protection. Incredibly, the rider was unsatisfied with simply getting away from a crash unscathed, and demanded compensation for the incident. What phone is worth $1800? And what loss of income bro?? Online chatter Quite a few people felt the demands were unjustified, with many different reasons. Others simply urged the camcar to just make a police report and claim their insurance instead. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. This woman sounds highly toxic. she may have gotten her compensation. But she'll spend the last years of her life alone. worth it meh

  5. What has happened to our society? 'If he loses hearing, I'll just pay compensation' FURIOUS that a three-year-old boy hit his two-year-old son, a father allegedly slapped the older child. But the slap was so hard that the boy had to be taken to hospital yesterday as his right cheek had swelled up. The man, believed to be in his 30s, was arrested by police after members of the public called the authorities and stopped him from escaping. The two boys were believed to have been playing near a market in Toa Payoh Lorong 7 yesterday morning. They did not know each other, Lianhe Wanbao reported. At one point, the older child hit the other boy, incurring the wrath of the latter's father. After slapping the three-year-old, the man scolded him loudly, saying that he had not been brought up well by his family, eyewitnesses said. The commotion attracted a crowd and some people told the man off, saying that adults should not hit young children. Some bystanders said that the man was behaving arrogantly and pointed out that his actions could cause the boy to lose his hearing. But the man replied: "If he loses his hearing, I'll just pay compensation." The boys' families argued for about an hour after the incident. The three-year-old's grandfather, a 68-year-old retiree, said that he was shocked by the incident. Yesterday was a rare occasion when the older boy had accompanied the family's maid to the market. "It was very chaotic when the incident happened. When my grandson was hit, he was scared silly and couldn't even cry. The man who hit him later wanted to hit me, too," he said. Retiree Shen De Rong, 71, who was at the scene, said that no matter what happened between the two kids, parents should not use force on them. "How can a grown person do something like that to a small child? It was really barbaric," he said. Another bystander, Cai, 60, said many members of the public did not approve of the man's actions. "He could have tried to mediate or given a scolding, but he should never physically cause hurt," said Mr Cai. The man tried to leave the scene after hitting the three-year-old, but bystanders stopped him until the police arrived. He ended up sitting at a bench opposite a coffee shop. After the police arrived, they questioned the man. The police said they received a call at 9.56am requesting assistance in Toa Payoh Lorong 7 yesterday. A case of alleged assault was reported at the scene and a man was later arrested for being a public nuisance. Investigations are ongoing. The mother of the three-year-old boy declined to be interviewed when she was at the hospital, but she was reportedly angered by the incident. [email protected]
  6. So it is all about the money, money, money and money is all they want and money is their end game... All those hoohoohaha is just for show only .... Looks like so many people kanna made use of. So, just say how much is the compensation lah? http://www.allsingaporestuff.com/article/dead-inmates-mother-happy-government-compensation DEAD INMATE'S MOTHER IS HAPPY WITH GOVERNMENT COMPENSATION The mother of an inmate who died in Changi Prison has withdrawn her appeal for a second inquest into her son's death following an "amicable settlement" with the Government. Madam Selvi Narayanasamy, 45, has also withdrawn her civil suit seeking compensation for the death of her son Dinesh Raman Chinnaiah, bringing the saga to a close. The amount of money paid to Madam Selvi in the settlement is confidential. Dinesh, then 21, had died of breathing problems while being placed chest down and left in an isolation cell on Sept 27, 2010. He was restrained after he kicked a prison warden on Sept 27, 2010. The coroner's inquiry into his death was discontinued after senior prison officer Lim Kwo Yin pleaded guilty last year. The officer was fined $10,000 for causing death by negligence. Madam Selvi filed a judicial review challenging the coroner's decision not to continue the inquiry into her son's death shortly after but that was dismissed by the High Court in October last year. She appealed and arguments were heard earlier this month before the three-judge Court of Appeal, which reserved judgment. On Wednesday, Madam Selvi's lawyer M. Ravi told the appeals court that "parties have arrived at an amicable settlement" and she was withdrawing her appeal. Senior State Counsel Tai Wei Shyong had no objections. Madam Selvi was not in court but Mr Ravi said she was "quite happy" with the settlement. "It's also a closure for her. She has decided to move on with her life," he said. "She felt vindicated when her rights were ventilated before the High Court and Court of Appeal."
  7. anyone got any experience with such compensation claim arising from car accident? my side of story: 3 years ago, while at stationery, was rear hit by a taxi who dozed off. impact was huge as my head fell directly on steering, Concussion shortly after the accident. was also in neck brace for a period of time but i was stupid, hospital insisted in hospitalization but i decline. MC was a month if i recall correctly during this 3 years, i have visited numerous specialists for ailment like whiplash and severe migraine. whiplash was minor and recover over time, although i suffer stiff neck from time to time. Migraine was severe, it took a long period to fully recover with medication etc. based on the medical supporting, it did state the form of injuries suffered but both are just brief and didn't state it was whiplash. Migraine, medical supporting, was recovering and doing fine. during this period, i also have visited physio for treatment with such weak medical supporting, the lawyer also conclude my compensation won't be significant. however, as a victim, i feel that this is a lifetime injury as i do suffered attacks from time to time, although improved. i do feel that this law firm was weak, didn't really study my case well nor fight for my right my hearing is today, i would like to ask if i rejected the compensation claim offered, will i be offered another higher compensation? what are the other options that i could consider to justify for higher claim?

  9. Family of dead Ferrari driver sues insurers AXA Singapore had told Mr Ma's family that the crash was a "collision", not an accident. Tue, Aug 14, 2012; AsiaOne The wife and mother left behind by deceased Ferrari driver Ma Chi are taking the vehicle's insurers to court after the companies said they intend to withdraw coverage for the deadly crash. The Straits Times reported insurers AXA Singapore had told Mr Ma's family that was a "collision", not an accident. What this means in the insurance industry is that the driver was aware that his actions would cause an accident, thereby voiding the insurers' liability to make a payout. Mr Ma's family wants the High Court to reject this finding by suing the insurers. The lawsuit is believed to be the first such reported case in Singapore and is becoming a public interest issue as to how accidents are treated as "collisions", under which an insurer can reject liability. The accident in May left three, including Mr Ma, dead and two others injured. He had allegedly run a red light, crashed into a taxi, which then hit a motorcycle. According to The Straits Times, AXA first informed the Ma family of its decision last month. In the same month, the family had replied that they disagree with AXA's position. The company then responded by asking the family not to liquidate any of Mr Ma's assets, and said the case should be arbitrated. AXA also asked the family to supply a list of his other assets. Wendell Wong, lawyer for the Ma family, then filed a suit asking the High Court to rule that the crash was indeed an accident and not a "collision" as claimed by AXA. The family released a statement on Monday, "It is not an easy decision but the family feels that we need to seek the assistance of the Singapore courts as the insurer made the decision to repudiate liability first. "We just want to follow the Singapore laws as to what we need to do following the accident that affected people's lives." A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for next month. [email protected]
  10. Hi, Would like to seek out some opinions or experience in dealing with injury compensation. It had been a year since my accident with a taxi. 11. Another compensation case. IIRC, the 2 of them were trying to cycle upslope. The ATB made it up ok but chess master was having trouble. ATB went back to help but hit something, fell off the bike and smacked her head. THE family of Chinese tourist Nao Xueping is seeking compensation after she died falling from her bicycle last month. Madam Nao, 45, was at Pulau Ubin with her friend, Singapore Chinese chess grandmaster Tay Siang Hock, 76. It is from him that the family hopes to claim compensation, although no amount has been named yet, according to evening newspaper Shin Min Daily News. Madam Nao's 23-year-old son said she had borrowed $4,000 from relatives to come to Singapore. It is believed that she was here on a tourist visa to help her son find a job. Now the family members have no idea how they will pay back the sum. The family arrived in Singapore last Monday, and she was cremated last Saturday by undertaker Roland Tay at no cost. She was flung off her bicycle on a stretch of road that has had a history of accidents. She suffered severe head injuries and died on the way to hospital.

  13. The Electric New Paper : Movie violence He's punched in cinema, but frustrated with attacker's no-show for mediation Just follow law, and Mr Jiang Yanlong did exactly that. By Geraldine Yeo 18 November 2010 Just follow law, and Mr Jiang Yanlong did exactly that. While watching a movie with his girlfriend on April 25, another moviegoer punched him in the head because Mr Jiang had told him to be quiet. What followed was Mr Jiang's frustrating journey in making sure his attacker didn't get off scot-free. For seven months, he went from police statements to filing a magistrate's complaint and two court dates in which his attacker did not turn up. Mr Jiang told The New Paper later: "I thought the matter would have just been settled and that I would get compensation. I didn't expect this to drag on." He said he was looking for monetary compensation as well as an apology. Here's his biggest frustration? there's not much else he can do.

    Time to join Nissan

According to Bloomberg, Nissan is the place to be a director for a Japanese automaker. According to a new article, Nissan Motor Company hands its directors close to four times the amount of pay as its rival Toyota and three times as much as what Honda directors bring home. Averaged among all of Nissan's directors, the heads of the company make around US$1.5 million per year, compared to around US$411,150 for Toyota's gurus and US$529,561 for Honda's head honchos. Keep in mind those numbers are based on current conversion rates. So what gives? For one, Nissan is shacked up with Renault at the moment, giving the company a bit of an international flavor and the pay scales that comes along with that association. However, a bigger factor may be that Toyota and Honda compensate their heads of state in other ways. Toyota, for example, hands out stock options worth around $171,000 in addition to base salary in order to help make up some of the gap. Despite the massive amounts of cash heading to Nissan's directors, the company can't quite keep up the pace in either profits or sales with its main domestic rivals. The company fell dead last among the big Japanese three in sales for the past year.

  18. Man bedridden after road accident awarded $1.5m in damages By Selina Lum A 33-YEAR-OLD MAN, left incapacitated and mentally disabled after a road accident seven years ago, has been awarded $1.5 million by the High Court, believed to be one of the highest for personal injury claims here. But his 54-year-old mother believes that her son should get more money. 'I'm not satisfied,' Madam Ramiah Naragatha Vally told The Straits Times on Thursday in between sobs on Thursday. 'My son's life is gone.' Mr Ramesh Ayakanno, a former lorry driver who held a blackbelt in taekwondo, is now unable to move or talk and requires life-long medication for epileptic seizures. He spends most of his day in bed and is moved to a reclining chair for a couple of hours a day, said Madam Vally. He cannot feed himself and has to wear adult diapers. Mr Ramesh is entitled to get 95 per cent of the award, as well as interest and legal costs. This is because in 2002, the driver of the van that crashed into Mr Ramesh had agreed to take 95 per cent of the blame for causing the accident on the Kranji Expressway on March 9, 2001. The payout will be made by the van driver's insurers. Mr Ramesh had been hit after he stopped his lorry along the road shoulder to check a noise coming from the back of the vehicle. Then 26 years old and due to get married, he was flung to the ground and suffered serious head injuries. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_214058.html
  19. Being a new driver and not familiar with the workshop costs of repairs, in events of accidents (those that need not be reported to police), are there be rough guidelines on the amount of monetary compensation that the guilty party would have to pay, without having to claim from insurance? Below are some scenarios I can think of, please kindly provide an estimation of the compensation costs: 1) front/rear bumper collapses/ damaged 2) mini dents on the vehicle body (be it front, rear, sides) 3) major dents on the vehicle body (be it front, rear, sides) 4) front/rear lights cover and lights damaged 5) sports rim damaged/dented 6) scratches on vehicle body (other vehicle body paint got stuck to own vehicle body) 7) scratches on vehicle body (own vehicle body paint got stuck to other vehicle body) During such incidents, other than taking pictures with the phone, taking down the vehicle number, and driver
