i think not only I know the problem.................you know the problem...........many ppl know the problem..............I am sure the gov know the problem..............

My solution to them is stop the inflow.........get the system back on track.........

now they know how many more are coming..............than prepare for that number...............

if the main is not switch off...............there is no way anyone can repair a damage tap..........soon we going to a pipe burst somewhere........

not when salary is tied to GDP. -_-

everyone knows how to solve the problem. that is control population, and IMPROVE public transport system. Overhaul if necessary.

problem is, are they willing to do it?

I'd rather they spend the money to develop an app so people can plan in advance.. than to go all the way to the MRT station and then LPPL...

SBS transit's IRIS app does have the option to alert u when there are service disruptions.

I got the notification that morning but wasnt affected as i take bus to work! morning trains are like sardine cans. i rather wake up earlier to arrive at work in one piece, without foot injuries.

i got give solution.

bring redundancy back to the transport network, and the buffer for train breakdowns will appear.

all these bridging services that they come up with rite now, is just knee jerk reactions.

using buses to ply the parallel routes will alleviate a lot of these problems faced today.

question is, are they gonna listen and DO?

dun even need to get more busses. just re-look at some of the services today and mabbe add another leg to the route and you would have created that "redundancy" to buffer breakdowns.

rather than have these crazy stuck in the trainstation scenarios.

just like in Boston or Paris, where a lot of transport services run parallel to each other.

if one metro breaks down, they just walk to the next block and catch the tram or the bus and they still can get to work on time without much fuss.

Davidoh ah davidoh, the original problem that you refer to take time to solve, if it is so easy, the problem won't be so bad for so long. I know bashing government can earn you a lot of point, but to bash everything and provide no single solutions doesn't help to the problem.

"Green" - Free access, you move into position (to board the train)

"Amber" - Overflow, Prepare to be withdrawn

"Red" - Full, Sorry no entry, come back again in 30 minutes or take free buses

Beat "Red" light, fine $500/- plus 4 demerit points. 12 points and above within 3 months sent for reflesher/councelling,

24 points, banned from taking MRT for six months

Population control is not just about putting or taking off condom, it impact a lot of industries. Businesses already facing manpower shortage, some things like increasing productivity takes time. It is easy to say word like overhaul, you know how difficult it is to overhaul a mature city like singapore or not.

No need to pay you a million, because I know instinctively someone like you will not be able to solve the problems.

that is why i say, do a re-route of the current bus services to cater to parallel routes with train lines.

as long as there is no alternatives to release some of the load of the trains, there will never be a solution unless the train operators are willing to buy more trains or increase frequency of trains to cater to the ever increasing load.

re-routing or re-planning the existing bus services to run parallel to the trains is not going to load the bus network any more than they currently are.

it may result in longer rides for some, but it TAKEs away some of the pressure off the trains.

AND

it give commuters alternatives. key word here being ALTERNATIVE.

That would increase the operating cost of transportation, then it is us that have to bear with the cost. 羊毛出在羊身上. Anyway, there is a lot of private bus running along north east line and it is getting popular. You all can try it.

Chio :D

But Impractical lah...

If I have to take MRT, means I have to take MRT regardless of the crowd level in the stations or on the platform...

They expect me to wait outside the station? Or the station gate closes to prevent me from squeezing in and until the light turns green, then I can go in?

Anothet brillant idea from some scholars, who just treat us humans like some cargo...

there are few things that was forever discussed which I didn't wish to bring up which makes the people of the countries feel they should get kicked in the ass.

I never mentioned that it was easy. What I'm saying is we are expecting more out of their million dollar salaries.

So overhaul for mature city is difficult and problem is getting worse each day.. you expect the end-users to just sit down, be patient and wait?

have we transformed from a country that think ahead to a country that perform "fire-fighting" whenever there is problem.. and now eventually to one that gave up and say it's going to take too much effort??

I think worst than cargos, shipments can still be planned in advance.

animals should be more correct , trying to board the Noah's Ark.........now then they realize the we are overpopulated, still talking

about 6.9M or 10M then the MRT and buses dimension must be increase to cope with it.

my sentiments exactly~!

i think i posted something long the lines of wat you just said in one of the threads here.

cannot remember which one.

It is not giving up, it is being patient, being positive. Everyone can see the problem now, so I think they are trying to solve the underlying problem so that such things don't happen again. And to go to the root of the problem takes time.

I can see road widening on major expressway, more mrt station and lines to make singapore more integrated. I can see they give free travel for morning commuters, which is quite dumb, but you know they are trying to buy more time for all the upgrades.

HK is densely populated but they don't have this problem.

Their stations are wider, trains are longer and wider.

Got lah, hk's mtr got some problems recently.

http://gothamist.com/2014/07/17/ex-mta_ceo_jay_walder_leaves_hong_k.php

But as a whole, i do think HK's mtr is better run than our mrt.

I thought marlboro went to hk previously to learn from them (and other countries?) on the best practice, then dhoby ghaut station got high rise building atrium (now under capMall) and employ ah saw for retail/ rental income. but that's mid to end 90s

[laugh] this is my guess. he went to see all the $$ earning parts of the way HK run their trains. he "forgot" the maintenance part? [laugh]

but then again, i could be wrong. [:p]

no mechanical system will be fail safe wan lah.

even redundant system will encouter murphy's law and breakdown at some time. (think DBS ATM service downtime. banks has redundancy for their redundancy system... so, u say leh)

but to have it occuring at the frequency we are encountering today, erm... some one is obviously not doing their job loh. -_-
