Angchug 3rd Gear October 6, 2014 Author Share October 6, 2014 No donation needed! Was on a taxi earlier n uncle was in the hurry and i ask him what is happening. To my surprise. Uncle told me he need to go and collect lunch for the poor. He and his group of taxi drivers friend had been doing it for years.
DavidOh 5th Gear October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 Every time when I read something like this my heart and soul is refresh knowing that there are many Singaporeans quietly doing their part to help their fellow citizens. These "common" people are the people whom the media should be high-lighting and less of those people earning multi-million dollar salary but do nothing themselves to donate. Up to today, I am still suffering from shock, really I am not joking, about the NKF case when citizens question why a charity organisation that is funded by donations from citizens (some sacrifice so they can help fellow citizens), money donated is used to pay $600K salary to a person, toilet with gold taps and flying in first class cabin. To rub it in, there is a high power lady who said in public that this $600K salary is peanuts. It makes a mockery of those people whose hard-earned (sweat and blood) money are used to donate to this charity organisation. We should be giving recognition to these "common" citizens who work and donate to charity without thinking or expecting anything in return. I salute them. They do us proud.

Qpik Supercharged October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 For those who consider showing ur kids how lucky they are, u can consider bringing ur family there to prepare food. Big grp, plse call them. I went w my frens, 4pax. We prepared vegetables to be cooked. Basket n carton of vegetables that we deemed inedible are actually donated to them. Just salvaged n cut into bite size portion. Even the canned food which are donated are gg to expire. It is really eye-opener n we left the place counting our blessings cos we are touched that we r in a position to help. As MCF hv alot of well-off members, if u can, plse consider helping these non-govt funded charity.

DavidOh 5th Gear October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 I am just thinking aloud. Is there something wrong with our system that there are so many falling out of the cracks? To think that even the poor or low income also have to chip in. We have so many beautiful things in Singapore, expensive, Casinos, F1 night races, Gardens by the bay and etc. Does all these help our less fortunate? Or is it business as usual?

If you have followed the govt's rhetoric lately on charity work, they are trying to get the citizens to chip in to help. I suppose there is a clear line drawn to say that helping the poor and less fortunate are not the sole responsibility of the govt. to me i would have preferred raising the income tax by a few percentage points. just imagine the revenue you can generate from the super rich to help offset the living costs of those below poverty line.

My policy has become, no annual report / financial information on website, no consideration of donation. Is it really so difficult to put the number of employees and salary information?

Raising income tax wld not make a significant diff. It is the middle income bearing the brunt, super rich hv financial experts to do their tax planning. I'm thinking that the income divide will continue. In the meantime, I advocate "returning to society" through participating in worthy causes. I know charitable org needs $ for running costs n instead of wondering how many % finally reached the recipient, I decided this is something that I am comfortable with. Or those who want to makes a diff but no time, can find drive calling for food supplies donation. For example, Lee Ah Moi Home that Kobayashi n many members supported recently welcome clothing, bedsheet n even medicine. Sometimes, one can get emotionally affected after seeing the living condition of the recipients n question the futility of one's efforts. The only way to continue is to believe that one's action makes a diff for that day n not dwell abt the future. It is really 一天过一天,不要想太多mentality that can propel one to continue.

Those with cars and don't mind helping to deliver can drive there cuz they also need people to help to deliver the food.
