Ender Hypersonic January 22, 2015 Share January 22, 2015 (edited) Becoz some companies are subsidizing medical and all are paying for medical insurance of their employee. It's in their interest they do not take in those that may potentially relies heavily on this benefits. Edited January 22, 2015 by Ender

efssc 5th Gear January 22, 2015 Share January 22, 2015 (edited) My understanding of this is slightly different. Was told by a friend in HR before; a) Medical examinations are required by insurance companies, not employers, b) If a person is found to have certain pre-existing conditions or determined to be at high risk of certain conditions during medical examination, these conditions will be omitted from the insurance coverage. E.g. if you are found with high BP during examination, you cannot make any claims for or related to high BP in the future under company medical insurance. You should however, still be allowed and able to claim for non-related aliments such as cold or fever etc. c) It should however, not affect your employment with the company unless the said condition directly affects or impede your ability to carry out the tasks required for the job, this includes cases whereby the person is deemed to be needing a lot of MCs, and the company feels it cannot afford to allow that. Last but not least, there is a reason why medical examinations take place only after the company decides to employ you, sometimes even after signing appointment letters, coz for most employers, minor aliments or chronic diseases (under control) are not really critical considerations. If people are rejected from jobs simply because they have high BP, probably 1/3 of our Singaporean adults would be out of a job right now. Again, just my $0.02. efssc 5th Gear January 22, 2015 Share January 22, 2015 (edited) To TS, if you are not well go see a doctor and treat your HBP. That is some great advise right there from Wheels. These days, most chronic diseases like high BP, diabetics etc. can all be controlled with the right diet + exercise, and a little help from medications if necessary. Many chronic disease patients went on to live full, meaningful lives by keeping their conditions under check. A lot of cases where people actually died from chronic diseases related issues are when they either have no discipline with their lifestyles, refuse to seek help, or do not take their meds regularly and on time. So when it comes to health, better safe than sorry and better to find out and treat it early than late. Furthermore who knows, a visit to the doctor might just turn out that there's nothing wrong with you, and that you were simply nervous. Best of luck to your new job and health. Kangadrool Supersonic January 22, 2015 Share January 22, 2015 If possible, change your lifestyle first before attempting medication if you are still young (<50). Tiagong, if start medication liao, you can't stop. That is, you will be dependent on medication for the rest of your life. Whatever the case, always believe that as far as possible, seek some changes in your diet, lifestyle first before jiak yok as a last resort. ↡ Advertisement
