The original Sultan of Johor is no longer in power - the one who got conned, and whose family lived in Kampung Glam until 2001. The Sultan in power today, was the Temenggong, his great grandfather traded Singapore for the Sultanate of the entire Johor. So it was a favorable deal, but you wouldn't expect him to be a puppet. The Johor sultans have always been more active in politics than other sultans, it is also the only sultanate that has its own army.

 

 

Every political deal is always for self interest. No such thing as for the greater good in politics.

 

 

 

Heard that majority of his forces already disbanded by Mahatir last time.

 

Anyway, he's well fed by the M'sian govt & got many business deals in the Iskandar projects. Also have many privileges Singapore since he's on good terms with our govt.

Nope, not disbanded. It even has a commando unit. The current TMJ is an active military officer trained by Indian Armed Forces.

 

The Johor sultan has a lot of businesses and land, certainly not a puppet of KL. He has a major hand in the recent Forest City land reclamation deal, and why KL cannot put a total stop to it.

Yes TMJ is an Officer in India Army & the Sultan was trained in the US Army as far as I know.

 

Strange that the M'sian govt allowed that. Maybe they also lan lan, cannot do anything. They probably kept quiet as long as there's no trouble.

i also believe when a country / person is doing very well, he will nvr propose a joint venture / partnership / collaboration. let's c how our govt response to that.
