Love these two airplanes, Grumman A6 Intruder and A 10 Thunderbolt II. May not be sleek looking but highly functional. The latter is hell of the beasts for enemy ground troops.

No hard feelings bro. I only want to see if somebody can give a logical answer to my questions. If you believe E-160 is useful, there must be some logic where I see none. I am not rebutting you.

These are crucial spending. They must be studied not because of just the amount of money involved.

More importantly is, would it be effective in accomplishing the defense/attack mission? would it have more bang for the buck than other competing strategies?

or would it eventually prove to be a mistake paid with lives of those onboard? (ok a bit extreme but still valid)

Neither am I happy that I get no answer. I am, after 3 posts, still not enlightened and suffer from a deficit in the need for E-160 in strategic thought.

just saying....

suppose, and a big assumption that our neighbourhood got rough... we need depth to prevent sand spill on mainland. while we have armour for the one on top, but we have nothing much now for the one below. so hence E160. of cos, without a VTOL is rubbish, but we keep our options open.

a submarine carrier anyone?

25mm Chaingun, fierce...

But what's puzzling is they also order 30mm variants.

Why so many variants of almost similar caliber? Might as well buy all 30mm right?

Although I have to leave out the politics of why this will happen, I will just indulge in some speculation.

It is very hard to control so many islands below. boots on the ground is not easy.

The islands are too close. Sailing there anyone will know it is full of blind spots and ships can be hit easily in that labyrinth of water ways.

We need to deny the use of the islands as a base of launching ops and fire support.

of course I expect the forces to be in depth.

The Riau islands in SCS has an air base, ditto Pontianak and Sumatra.

A long supply route is possible along the length of Sumatra but very difficult due to the undeveloped nature.

Looking at the map, our water way is easily dominated from the closest islands.

We need to secure this as a first action. It is definitely close enough for the helos to fly so E160 is not effective.

What we may need is a full blown CV, but that is out of the question. hence a mini-CV pops up.

I shall stop here as anyone can guess what follows from here.

As to if the E160 can function as a mini-CV, I am not aware, but the specs can change. I also think the strategic options at the moment are more than adequate. there is really no need to spill sand on the tiny mainland to destroy it.

Taiwan made IFV CM32 Clouded leopard aka “云豹”.

and they realized the 20mm cannon can't penetrate China's IFV. [laugh]

Japan actually had a sub aircraft carrier during WW2.

yup... but their prob was they cannot recover aircraft after ops...

have to ditch and pilot swim back to sub. disposable aircraft...

the surprise element is valuable

I wonder if they used it in any key campaign likely to make a decisive impact?

but then weapons by itself don't win wars.

unless something like this would be a game changer..

The only guy I can think of using a A bomb is fatty Kim or some terrorists.

The scientists are trying to develop a bomb with as much explosive power as a A bomb but without the radiation.

So far, the closest they can get is MOAB.

1945 already had the greatest bomb ever used... until today no such bomb has been detonated... hope it never has to again...

another front? really? where is the MSR going to come from?

somebody will really have to go out of the way for a "Kuwait" type liberation and I imagine there may not be a host country like Saudi did.

and then there is the bill.

A-6 was featured in Flight of the Intruder, both novel and film [thumbsup][thumbsup]

Warthog was featured in both T4 Salvation & Transformers (below):

We also nearly kena conned when the US offer RSAF option to purchase their V-22 Osprey VTOL carrier. Heng some smart alec reject it.

This plane got such a bad crash record even movies show them crashing.

Haha in view of these rejections we probably should have given more credit to our skolars [;)]

Then again one quote which I could not pin down to who said it but have somehow remembered reading it somewhere was something like "these SEA countries bought the F5s thinking they have a jet fighter"

Really kena suan gao gao <_<
